FPS doesnt affect the speed your travelling in a game.
It affects the quality of the picture in the game.
If you have 9999 FPS which is like impossible your picture would be perfect..

OK command is "fps_max" pressing enter didn't reveal a default for me. Mines just set at 300 because thats the max my computer usually hits. I think its just that high because I wanted to see what it could achieve. Anyway good luck, try turning off and on some advanced settings. Anti-Aliasing is the biggest performance hit aside from resolution so knock that off first if its on.

ok listen it could be my cpu but i dno it randomly started happening....like i join a game playing with a stable 60 fps and then 5mins later drops down to 10-30 which is a problem...so i brought new ram and new graphics card which boosted my pc to 2gb of ram and a 512mb graphics card and still happening....could dust or overheat cause problems like this...you think it will need a cleaning?

Well idk....I have a 3.0Ghz processor and 4 gigs of Ram...but my video card is a nVidia Gefoce 8800...and I have like a perfect 60 FPS.

But that was also when I was playing offline....I haven't tracked online gameplay yet.

Well idk....I have a 3.0Ghz processor and 4 gigs of Ram...but my video card is a nVidia Gefoce 8800...and I have like a perfect 60 FPS.

But that was also when I was playing offline....I haven't tracked online gameplay yet.

Wouldnt really affect much FPS online i would say.
Maybe 5 FPS Drop?

I agree. From what you just said that sounds like a RAM leak or something, your computer will pretty much pack up once its used too much of the physical RAM. However 2GB isn't going to disappear because of background processes, unless you have like a Virus scanner scanning, that'll dominate your CPU.

It wouldn't be your CPU choking the game up that much, its the weak point of your system but its not a weak point when you're playing a game as old and well made (resource usage wise) as CS Source. Like I said I get massive FPS on that game maxed out. Goes well past 250FPS when not much is going on.

So do you have Virus/Spyware/anything scanner? The best thing to do would be to wait until the game does that, alt+tab while game is still running and bring up your RAM graph. If you have XP just Ctrl+Alt+Del and bring up task manager, click on Performance TAB and see what your Memory bar is at (and your CPU if thats spiking).

Right now for example my memory is at 1.34GB used. GFG Vista. Nothing open but MSN/XFire/Firefox lol

EDIT: Its worth mentioning that I used to have the same problem in BF2 with 4GB of RAM and it was due to the RAM for some reason not working when you had more than 2x1GB sticks...was just the RAM brand, swapping RAM turned a crashing POS into a flawlessly stable brick that it is now

well my antivirus u use is avg free 8.0 and it doesnt do any virus scans or anything because it happens like 5-10mins within the game and i dont know what it is...

well no nothing chewing up my ram...i have nothing running in the background and its just the game....stable 60 fps and 5mins later randomly drops...ive tried memory optimizers and programs to boost my performance and tweaking graphics....still no change

EDIT: Ok i just downloaded and installed a RAMBooster and apparently were going somewhere now...my physical ram is going down to 60% avaliable...so something is running in the background automatically or something is causing my fps loss...

guys would vista be a better gaming pc or stick with xp
