Wii Hardware \ Possibly just fried my Wii.. help!

Beasticly says:

Think I might have just killed my wii...

Had it plugged into a power board, working fine. Decided to plug something else into the same board (a monitor) and a bright blue spark light on the power board and blew my USP's fuse. Now the Wii won't power on in any wall socket. Does anyone know if nintendo build fuses into their power bricks? I'm really hoping that all I have to do is buy a new power brick.. I only just bought my baby.

Mmmm... that sounds major freaky! I'd contact either Nintendo or the store you bought it from straight away!

phatbass82 says:

Oh dear. Damn monitors.

I think you're best idea is to ring Nintendo and tell them your Wii isn't working at all, and you should still be able to claim a warranty on it. It could just be the power supply, but it could also be more. Better to just send it in, instead of blowing your money on a replacement brick only to find out that it was a problem with your Wii.

Beasticly says:

Yeah, except I bought this Wii chipped and 2nd hand of a member here who didn't include the original receipt.

It is highly likely that there'd be a fuse in the brick though right?

phatbass82 says:

Hmm, you could possibly open it up, if there are screws visibl, to see if there are any fuses.

Maybe just ring Nintendo and ask them how much it will cost to replace the power supply.

lol yes he did :/

When I owned it, I had it on a powerboard and it worked fine..

When I had a gamecube, the same incident happened. My nan plugged the vacuum cleaner in the powerboard, and the gamecube (well i though) had blown up. There was a tiny bit of smoke etc. I found out the power cord had just fried, thanks to the power brick thing in the middle of the cord.

So i presume the power brick is just the problem..
Its why they put it on there, to stop the console from fryin'
I think the only way you'll know for sure is to get a new power cord.

09/01/2007 oh god where am i?! *cry*

hamzie says:

Or u can sell it to jotendo :p
lol jks
do they sell the power cord separately?

mywiisites says:

yeah try it on a new power cord .is you best bet

thetooth says:

the wii power brick has a eprom chip in it to manage power but eprom is extremely sensertiv to voltages so i'd say it's the brick

09/01/2007 Above you........arrrrrrr!!!

Beasticly says:

Phew!!!

It's working again! No idea why, maybe there's some sort of timed fuse in the power brick or something. I don't really care anywho, it's working!

Crisis averted, but I'll definetely be buying a proper high end powerboard in the near future.

in the future, use a powerboard with a surge protector and a circuit breaker.

jaycadiram says:

Just out of interest... how many of you have your Wii plugged into a surge protector?

09/01/2007 Ipswich, Queensland

hainaku says:

My Wii, PC, and home entertainment system are all on surge protectors. A few years ago a lot of my electronic gear were fried when lighting struck our house.

jaycadiram says:

Eeepp! Okay, I better get myself a good surge protector then!

09/01/2007 Ipswich, Queensland

hainaku says:

lol! it's not too expensive for a little bit of extra protection. you can also unplug the Wii where you're not using it.

jaycadiram says:

Unplug the Wii..? What about updates then with Connect24 or whatever it's called? I might just get a surge protector and plug my plasma, Wii and home theatre into it.

mywiisites says:

after i got a replacement wii they said my old one might have died due to power surge to make sure i use a surge protector.
so nintendo them selves said to use one.

09/01/2007 geelong

jaycadiram says:

Okay, that's it... I'm getting one!

09/01/2007 Ipswich, Queensland

Beasticly says:
