also there is a list (just google it i cant remember the link) of games that do/do not work and that do/do not have updates. i would always check that.

This is for games that are in NTSC format. A lot of the games imported from America need to be patched so that it can work properly on the PAL (Australian) Wii. You're best bet is to make sure that your games are PAL, it's less fuss that way and also less risk in bricking your Wii.
