They still make them. I have two atm and have a whole lot more on my "to buy" list. The one thing I hate about the pewter models is that they're so hard to put together. Well, at least harder than the plastic ones.

Harder to put together? Do you mean assemble or modify?

I suppose you'd have to roughen pewter up something fierce before Bondo would adhere properly.

Wii-fan: If you want prices, go to oz.games-workshop.com/ for all your Aussie prices for the models.

Desi: I mean as in they're harder to assemble, particularly the smaller pewter models. A lot of filing needed to make sure no bits stick out too much and some drilling required to place the model on their bases.

Also, don't figure painting guides refer to the official paints? That would certainly be something to consider.

Desi: Yeah, the Games Workshop guides name their colours according to THEIR range of paints. For example, Navy Blue for us is Regal Blue to them, Silver is Mithril Silver or Boltgun Metal to them. They'll use their jargon.

Wii-Fan: Yes...you need a Codex if you intend on playing. If you just want to model, assemble and paint, then you don't need a codex. Codex's are basically the "bible" for your army. So without them, you won't be able to play your army.

Coolest figure ever? Chaos Lord holding a Space Marine aloft by the helmet. And, umm, riding a Tyranid. If only!

1. Yes you should pick up some paints. The bottles are $5 each so just pick up $20 or so or enough to paint your Space Marines or Tyranids.

2. The Chaos Lord is from the Chaos Space Marines set. He's what's known as a "HQ" or a General/Commander. You can have up to 2 HQ's in your army and they're urually a LOT more powerful than your other units.

3. No, you can not intermix armies which sucks because I would LOVE to have a Necron/Chaos mix.
However, with Chaos, you can actually use demons from the Warhammer Fantasy games and use them in 40k. You can even use Lords from the Fantasy games and "convert" them (pretty much give them Chaosy characteristics like pistols, jetpacks, lasers etc) and use them in your 40k army. But in saying that, you can't use 40k models in a Fantasy army.

You can still choose Space Marines dude. The best thing about Space Marines is that they have different legions or, as they're commonly referred to as, Chapters.

For example, you said your friend plays SPace Wolves right? Well that's one branch from Space Marines. Another chapter is the Blood Angels (who recently got a new codex). Hell, you can even make up your own chapter but I wouldn't suggets doing that for beginners. You need a very thorough knowledge of the game's mechanics to do that.

It's really up to you. Don't let your friends decide for you. If you like Space Marines, then go Space Marines. They're very tough and will recover from any little mishaps you send them into during a game. They're the beginners' race pretty much. As for Orks...they're a little more advanced and VERY outdated. Their Codex is WAY passed a scheduled Codex update and a lot of changes need to be made. Though, played properly, the Orks are devastating.

I chose Chaos because I love the whole "Purge the Universe" story they have behind them. So vile and corrupt...it's delicious

Also, they're pretty easy to play with and understand just like regular Space Marines except with bonuses like Demon spawning and melee units (Berzerkers).
