I was wondering if i'm not the only one that has this problem with the Wii. From what i've read on American forums, the GPU has overheated and is the cause to this problem.
What i can see (most noticeably on the main menu) is random pixels flashing (a large veritical line on the left hand side, and then in random areas- small patches).
Has anyone called Nintendo Australia to have this repaired or replaced? And if so, does that mean i lose my saved games and all off my Wii?

When i first noticed it, i thought it was the component cables(RGB) i then switched to the composite cables...its not the cables and its not the monitor.
i've only played my wii for a good 30 hours (3-4 hours each day) in total since i've bought it. I would have thought it doesn't overheat that fast.

Its well ventilated. And like i said, i haven't been playing it for long periods. It sounds like that its not a widespread problem in australia....???....I'm just unlucky

they want me to send it off for an inspection and should they find nothing wrong with it, they'll charge me for the inspection. ($35).
Great!..i suspect they'll say there isn't anything wrong with it.

Have u tried just ur tv with a normal dvd or just normal tv to see if its not ur tv?? What type of tv u got??

If its the Wii problem i dont see why u shud have to pay any mullah if its still under warratee?? Is it??

I must agree. Try a different TV, try everything before you send it back. Even placing a fan near the ventilation holes of the Wii to eliminate everything.

See the flickering of pixels. Thats the issue.
My wii is a lot worse than that youtube clip.
I have vertical lines on one side and then a lot of patches where it flickers. it doesn't change position when you go into another menu, just a lot more is displayed.

I don't think this problem can be corrected other than a nintendo repair, but the problem being is that Nintendo won't think its a problem. But believe me its soo annoying coz its not suppose to look like that.

Yeah, it's possibly a heating problem. You can usually tell in games when there are "artifacts" and weird graphical glitches which usually means that the graphics card is overheating. I've especially seen it when you overclock a PC graphics card too much.

If you have exhausted all the tests we suggested above, time to send your baby into Nintendo and get yourself a warranty fix.

Definatley an overheating problem. Some people are saying it's because of Wiiconnect24 generating heat when the console is 'off' (and hence the cooling fans are off), but I can't say for sure.

It is a damaged GPU problem caused by the fact that the Wii is still running during standby mode, but the fans aren't running, causing overheated GPU's and pixel issues. It takes quite a while for the damage to become apparent, like a lot of months. According to this link:

Nintendo will replace damaged Wii's and you will be reimbursed Wii Points for downloaded content so you can redownload it. A lot of the problem is noticable in RE4: WE. Contact Nintendo technical support and explain the problem. They will replace the Wii and Wii points.
