Excellent news! All they need to do now is patch the Wii so all chipped Wiis lose online capabilities just like MS did with the 360.

hainaku says:

if you read the comments, backups do work on NTSC systems because Mario Party 8 is NTSC. The PAL version is not available yet. Some people may have been using the backups on PAL Wiis - hence the problems being reported. This is no different from what we have already seen with other games.

However, Nintendo has recently changed the Wii's mainboard by removing some solder points where the Wii key modchip connects to, making it impossible to hook it up.

I doubt if Nintendo will release a firmware update to do this, as it may result in more bricked Wiis (non-modded Wiis included). it's a sensitive issue, as experienced already by xbox live users.

I think changing the hardware design was a good step.

30% of games have never worked! Nothing to do with something new Nintendo are doing...

30% is not 100%. They need to update all Wii's to brick the Wireless adaptor, that'll teach them.

Heh.

I think Foetoid is braindead. Apparently everyone with a mod-chip pirates games. Maybe someone should tell him what IMPORTING means.

His post regarding mod-chips every time has something to do with "kill a wireless adapter, laughing my self till i die, brick"

Grow up Foetoid.

jac33au says:

Its not just foetoid. There are a few of them here. Saying i should die for getting a chip. **** sake. Importing is not illegal, not immoral. Im buying the game at full retail cost in its original form, just not from an australian store. Like ive said time and again. If nintendo did not region lock its console there would be no need for a chip.

Importing = Spoilt little impatient brat
Pirating = Don't even get me started

So either way, you're either breaking the law, or you need to grow up and be patient for local release. Parents these days fail to teach there kids the basics in life, like patience. Importing is a stupid loophole that people designing mod chips can use to legally create and install chips that play imported and pirated games. The only excuse for importing is if a game is banned in Australia, and even then you can get a PAL verision from the UK.

Good to know that there are honest people out there.
Seriosly something big needs to be done and what better company to do a big thing and make a big impact like Nintendo.
I hope all you dirty theives get whats coming to you.

Please. Spoilt little brat? How is paying more for a game being spoilt. I work damm hard for my money and i spend it how i choose and its of no consequence to you how i do that. If you say your against piracy thats fine, its illegal but youve no right to be so aggressive to people who are not breaking the law and are only doing whats perfectly legal. However you see it.

Have you NOT read the last few posts?

Seriously - I IMPORT games, that is the SOLE PURPOSE of my chip.

Maybe you should find out what the law for chipping and importing is.

It's completely LEGAL in Australia.

How is importing making me a "spoilt little impatient brat"?

This does NOT make ANY sense. I'm paying RRP for a game, that can come up 6 months earlier. Impatient? No - I could wait for the game if I had to, but since I can get it (because of my chip) then I do.

I'm not the one acting all arrogant, just because my Wii has more capability than yours, you don't need to cry!

Its not our fault that Nintendo have chosen not to become part of the global shopping market. Its the internet people, get used to it. Guess what you can buy stuff from all over the planet. Hey Sony are part of the action. PS3 is not region locked and funny that, it makes the chips illegal for that console.

I'm going out of my way to give money to my favourite game developer. I hardly see why this makes me spoilt. Nintendo has once again boxed themselves in with their own technology. First it was cartridges, then it was low-capacity Gamecube discs, and now it's limited online capability and region encoding. This forum would ban modchips entirely if the Wii was not region encoded.

Also, why are we lamenting the death of patience but not the death of the English written language? 'There' is position, 'their' is possessive.

Just wondering if Foetoid has ever downloaded a mp3 or burnt a friends CD or copied a cassette, or even taped a TV show on his VCR or DVD Recorder ? These are all forms of piracy.

I have been considering modding my Wii, I paid for it , I own it, it's mine to mod if I want. I have no intention of buying games from overseas but I would like to be able to back-up my games so I dont have to risk scratching my original games & turning them into drink coasters. My brother has young kids who come & visit & like to play the Wii while we are playing some pool or having a few drinks & sometimes they can be a little rough with the disks or forget to put them back into their covers. I would feel alot better giving them some back-up discs to load into MY Wii knowing that if they damage them I can also make another back-up.
