Wii Hardware \ Mario Party not working on modded wii - yay! - Locked

JackAz says:

I remember when this was an issue with PSX.
As long as you can have proof when necessary that you are only planning on 'backing up' your games or importing them, I don't see a problem with chips whatsoever.

Hearing about the development of a chip is the most exciting thing next to the console launch

Thats good. I hate people that pirate Wii games. Piracy means over the long haul we the genuine people have to pay more for our games.

You obviously don't have children using your Wii, they can be rough on discs & I have no intention of paying for games twice. I own the games legally therefore I can back them up. Swiftwilly why don't you answer the same questions I asked the Feotoid character earlier in this thread ? I bet you have done something illegal in your life, go take your childish comments & stick them where the sun don't shine.

And Zoidberg, I do own my own games & I am within my rights here in Australia to back them up for my own use.

dude, they don't care about your reasons, that's the problem. they just want to wish death to ALL those who mod their WIIs, no matter what reasons you have. i have the same reasons as you do, i have 4 boys (ages 2 to 12). i lost count on how many discs they've trashed over the years. but now as soon as i buy a new game/dvd/cd (yes i do pay for them), i make a backup copy for them to use. the original stays locked away.

have we really been paying more for our games? since the PS2 was launched, new game releases were at $99. and at that time, no modchips existed yet for the PS2, so how can anyone pirate any games? Newly release PS2 games now still costs around $99.

Xbox and Xbox360 games at launch were also around $100. When the Wii was launched, Zelda was already $99.

So after many many many years of modchips and piracy, the prices for new games haven't really changed much.

heck, even some new Wii games are now being released at $79-$89. so games are getting cheaper (while more and more people are installing modchips in their Wii consoles).

We all know the region free ruling in australia is the most bull**** ruling ever made because it gives piraters an excuse to make a chip that can play imported games AND pirated games. If there was a chip to ONLY circumvent region coding, go for it. But chips like Wiikey take advantage of a stupid loophole in Australian law that might as well say "Please pirate all games". With dev costs hitting over 10 mil, piracy is going to kill off gaming before my son grows up to enjoy it. Sorry if that pisses me off.

If devices that make consoles.etc Region Free are legal, why have region encoding?

Thats exactly what ive been saying. Sony doesnt have region locking on the PS3 so the mod chips would be illegal for it. Its nintendos own fault to give users in australia the legal loophole.

I don't see why this thread has gone on as long as it has.

The blatantly obvious point here is, if ninty thought a little about it, they'd release a free update which renders the console region free. From there, any mod chip which comes out would be illegal. From there they can just bring out online patches which render the wiikey useless.

Don't point your finger at the people who want to import games. Point your finger at Ninty for making a really really really stupid mistake.

PS3 has PROVEN how stupid ninty were, so GET THE HELL OVER IT. People have a right to do whatever they like, so long as it's legal. If that's modding your Wii so you can play any region games, then so be it, they're doing nothing wrong.

I also think that the trigger happy "official warning" admins should have something to say about the immature little twats making out that people who mod their wii's are criminals, as this is certainly not the case.

The reason this thread has gone on so long, because the people against the mod-chips keep saying the same thing over, and over again. They don't even read previous posts where all their facts just get proved wrong.

I don't think Nintendo can release a patch that makes it region free, because the channel frequencies are different - but I don't know how that works.

I vote for this thread to be closed.

Everything that needed to be said, has been said.

Thread locked. Gone on for long enough.

As I have said numerous times before, we will ban discussion of modchips and all chip-related activity only when Nintendo stops crippling themselves with their own technology and realises that people no longer want or want to persevere with a region-locked console.
