Wii Hardware \ My Wii just died! :(

bananaghst says:

hi there I very rarely post.

but, I needed some advice !

I was playing my Wii earlier today, and it was working fine, so i turned it off (well, standby?) and went to uni.

when I came home, the standby light was off.
nothing at all!

so i checked the cables and everything!
it's dead!

AND!

i spent $150+ on Virtual console games !

i'm calling nintendo tomorrow to order a replacement Wii, but, my question is

what will happen to the VC games? will I be able to get them back? or are they gone forever?

P.S. I only backed up all of my N64 games on my SD, just in case at least i'm sort of lucky in that respect

P.P.S. I'm taking my Wii over to a mates house, to see if its just my Power supply.

any help is appreciated !

thanks again!

EDIT **** problem solved! it WAS the power supply!

I feel your pain. sorry no advice for you.

Maybe you had a power surge?

Bozley says:

Wouldn't they repair your Wii over replacing it if possible? Maybe you get the same Wii back and still have your VC games.

You all know that power surges are not covered by warranty right? If your equipment gets fried because of a power surge or lightning strike then the manufacturer isn't liable. Yet Nintendo still accommodates it's customers in these situations, and that is good in my books. Other manufacturers will go to great lengths to try and prove that the fault isn't covered by warranty.

Yes, no company is perfect when it comes to customer service, but Nintendo is always consistently good with it's customers.

exactly its not nintendos fault that there is a problem with the power...but if you confront ur energex about the issue they give you the original rrp price of what got fried...

It happened to my cousins computer, it was about 5 yr old and was really sh*t, but when he 1st got it it was a top model so they gave him $3000 becase thats how much he had paid for it originaly, so now he has a sweet as pc thatnks to a power surge....

ba da bing ba da boom...:P

that's scarey dude.... i have my entire set up, wii included plugged into two $300 surge protector boards! they trim the bandwith continuously, are full of circuits, 8 plugs per board with individual circuits. top of the line. you proberbly had a power serge. serges can affect one item only. make sure you get something to protect your equipment. don't have to go all out like me....

I'm glad his Wii didn't end up dead.

Nintendo is good at custermer support...but not good at Wii returns.

1st Wii I owned, I was lucky I could return it to Target.

Second had to go to Nintendo...but stupid Nintendo sent me a broken wii.

When I wanted to return it they where been a pain to me...so I got it returned to Target and got another one when the next stock came in on Feb.

Nintendo has an OK customer support. In terms of ringing them in for enquiries, they give good responses. But for warranty & repairs, they're pretty shoddy.

I'm speaking from experience, I had to send my launch model Japanese Navy Blue DS Lite for repair cause the touchscreen simply wouldn't calibrate anymore.

So then they charged me 100 bucks to 'replace the circuit board underneath' since it wasn't under warranty. I was like 'really? the whole circuit board?' but paid anyways.

Got it back, wasn't fixed. Imagine how pissed I was to shell out 100 bucks for nothing. Anyways then I sent it back and wrote a massive letter of complaint. They finally admitted that they should've replaced the touchscreen instead of the circuit board. Surely enough, it fixed the problem.

4 week turnaround and a lot of hassles. Plenty of room for improvement Nintendo!

Your always loyal supporter,
ricky
