Sure, at this speed it becomes a driving bomb, if it hits anything, you're toast. But regardless. If I drive 113kph in a car and hit you you're still dead.

most trucks have speed limiters but they can be switched off and driven at whatever speed the truck can do

True, but regardless of speed, if there's a car pushing to get infront of the truck, it will do it, weighing sometimes 60 times less, obviously able to move faster, and potetially causing accidents.

Edit: Also, having sat behind the wheel of a semi-trailer, the speed compared to a car is not that wonderful, about 115 - 120 from memory, so not such a dramatic increase based on what a car is capiable of.

and from my previous post .
and i did say not all do drugs

I would like to see a speed limiter just switched off and then switched back on quickly for inspection. You have to know your wiring to turn it off. Not worth it for the few extra klms against the fine you get. Anyway, subject has gone off P plates and onto truck driving!

Perhaps a topic change is in order?
One truck driver told me of how to disable it, I personally don't see a point and it really does seem a lot of effort, especially when going for a service, it gets switched back on anyway....

Eh!

It is too hard to keep your licence these days. I have lost 9 points now due to speeding in work vehicles in the central west question past Emerald where you would only see a car once every hour. But now the cops are even on dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. But in the good old days, you would just go to court and tell the judge you need your licence for work and they would give you a clean slate. Now I stare at the speedo and try not to speed at all, so i guess it is kind of working in stopping us from speeding. But saving lives? I dont think so, just look at the stats.

hey mudguts, I used to have to drive to Barcaldine from Rocky regularly (2001 to 2005) and I never even seen a cop out there! You must have been unlucky.

Yes I was unlucky, but the cop reduced the fine to under 15km. I was going 140km/hr cos i was driving back to brisbane, it was 6:00 in the arvo, about 1000km to go after doing 12 hour straight shift and wanted to get back home to my woman.

Yeah wouldn't have been sad if you fell asleep at the wheel and then you would never have made it back home..

People take driving on the road so lightly, for the majority of people it will be most dangerous thing you will do in your life. From all the wars that Australian soldiers have died which starts from 18XX until now, almost double the amount of people have died on the roads in Australia, and the road death data started from 1925.

That is just fatalities, not the ones who have not been able to walk, or have other serious disablilities from car accidents.

Speeding increases the risk of having an accident, and increases the risk of serious injury or death. In the city/suburbs speeding hardly decreases travel time, over a 30km journey in Sydney that was done on the Great Western Highway, which the speed limit is 80 km/h when travelling at that speed it took 40mins, travelling at 40km/h took 55mins, a 15 minute difference for travelling at half the speed.

Yeah and then consider the amount of people driving and how often they drive compared to the amount of people who have gone to war and the amount of times they've gotten in a gun battle.

I tend to agree with it's not much difference in time though, I was driving with this person once who drives rather slow, under the speed limit but not that much under. Anyway he was showing us how we'd always catch the people that overtook us at the traffic lights. It was quite interesting.

I only speed when I am running from the cops after robbing a bank or something.

Even so, you are still comparing driving Vs going to war. So many people drive carelessly without thinking of consequences, yet ask a person to go to war and dieing would be probably be the first thing on their mind.

The comparison is to get people thinking, when they know someone is going to war they worry about them dieing, but almost twice as many people have died behind the wheel in a much shorter time span, yet people take driving so lightly because it's a day to day thing.

Yes I am comparing the two as you did, just with a different view. Of course people would think that about war. I am not the one saying that driving is more dangerous. Now I am confused. Oh well I have to get going anyway.

ROFL. You were going 30km/h over the maximum speed limit and you think you shouldn't have lost points? That's not unlucky. That's insanity.
