um, pretty naive comment. ps3 has some hot exclusives coming out this year including, MGS4, GT5, RFOM2, Killzone 2, dark rain, haze, littlebigplanet, FFXIII, and motorstorm 2 (and there are more). Additionally, ps3 has some nice exclusives already like motorstorm, RFOM, warhawk, folklore, uncharted: drake's fortune, and ratchet and clank. So, maybe he's interested in some of those titles? Not to mention there are more exclusives to ps3 like god of war 3 coming out in 2009 and beyond. Also, there's the added factor that ps3 is blu-ray, so it's a nice future-proof purchase.

so basically to recap, why buy a ps3 instead of an xbox 360
- plenty of current and upcoming exclusive titles, which appeal to him (that he CAN'T play on xbox 360).
- blu-ray, which he can either enjoy now, or when he gets an HD TV.

Also, given that the ps3 is starting to gather some momentum, it's likely that it will get even more exclusive titles, e.g. GTA might go back to being a ps3 exclusive title after GTAIV.

um, are you kidding me? you would need to spend alot MORE money on a pc to get comparable graphics to the ps3. I mean, lol, you need to spend $$$ on a gaming mobo, ram, cpu, graphics card and monitor - and then upgrade the graphics card every 2 years. Not to mention you don't get blu-ray, or the ps3 exclusive titles. Plus, he may not even like pc gaming, like me, and prefer to use his pc only for internet browsing and work.

To recap:
- pc's are much more expensive than the ps3, need to be upgraded frequently, and also, you need to be a pc geek in order to get a high end pc for a good price (or at least do a sh!tload of research)
- pc's don't have ps3 exlusives
- no blu-ray
- may not like pc gaming... sigh

um, with each comment, you make yourself look even stupider, sorry but it's true.

First of all, wii most likely has just as many 3rd party titles as the ps3 or xbox 360. However, the difference is that wii 3rd party titles are aimed at little kids, have an incredibly small budget, short development period, not to mention a 3rd tier development team, whereas xbox 360/ps3 3rd party titles are aimed at teens/young adults, have big budgets, long development cycles, and are made by A tier development teams.

For example: Red steel: 3rd party exclusive game for the wii made by ubisoft paris (crappy 3rd tier development team) vs rainbow six vegas, 3rd party game for ps3/360: ubisoft montreal (1st tier development team and one of the best development teams in the world)

Just look at the reviews for the 2 games to see the difference, lol...

wrong again.

Main reason for so little QUALITY 3rd party support is that there is a perception from developers around the world that only nintendo can make successful games on the wii (i.e. profitable/sell lots of copies).

just look at the dissapointing sales of zack and wiki, metroid prime 3, and red steel... vs zelda, mario galaxy, smash bros. and more...

3rd party games have to compete vs nintendo games lol. nintendo likes their franchise(s) because they SELL. sigh... and 3rd party titles are going to have a lot of trouble selling when sitting on the shelf sitting next to smash bro. or mario kart (at least that's what developers thinks).

You have to expect an element of fanaticism on a Wii focused site.

You'll find many here are enthusiastic about Nintendo. In their defense though, Nintendo has a very good track record for producing quality titles, especially with their ongoing franchises. They also have a great record for introducing and driving innovation. Analogue controls, controller rumble, downloadable content (back in the NES days!) They're definitely not the only ones to do it but it is something that they consistently pursue.

All of the consoles have killer apps. but not everything will please all tastes. I've played enough to know that the majority of the experience I'm after is likely to be found on Wii.

Are you serious? With the PS3 and XBox 360 you are talking 20-30 new gameas a month where as the wii only manages a handful.

Its always been the problem with Nintendo consoles for the reasons I mentioned.

Yes. I am saying that

I - greenbob - state that in my opinion no video game out there is a shadow on the better titles produced by Nintendo - past, present and no doubt future.

The Xbox and Playstation are expensive heaters/paper weights that replace gameplay with graphics.

If I want to see top notch graphics I will watch a movie.
If I want great interactive entertainment I play my Nintendo.

um, most nintendo wii titles are 3rd party titles too. As I said earlier, the difference between 3rd party titles between the two systems is the effort, money, and talent poured into them. Just compare red steel to rainbow six vegas as I said earlier.
And so what if tomb raider was once a sony exclusive? so was GTA and DMC. There are still plenty of other exclusive titles on both the 360 and ps3, the fact that there are lots of multiplaftform games gives someone interested in either a 360 or ps3, even more reason to purchase one.
er, and rare never 'jumped ship', nintendo sold them to microsoft lol, and FYI this means that nintendo has no right to put goldeneye, perfect dark, or banjo kazooie on their virtual console list. And the funny thing is, when nintendo was given the chance to do so in exchange for letting microsoft to put a goldeneye remake on XBLA, they shot themselves in the foot. So I guess none of those rare classics will ever come to virtual console...a slap in the face to all wii owners, in my opinion, lol.

EDIT: oh, I guess you can *always* enjoy your non-extistant online multiplayer with Medal of honour: heroes 2 (or w/e it's called), lol

Before you go on about processing power, this has been a trend that goes a long way back. When you needed 500,000 units sold to break even on a Nintendo game and 200,000 for a Playstation game.

I dont know if things have changed since then and I cant be bothered looking it up. But when you and me both agree that the third party titles on the Wii are weak, rushed and pitiful then it kinda backs up my thoughts.

There are other reasons - we dont get Silent Hill 5 because of the 'Nintendo for kids' perception.

Sometimes its to do with time taken to convert between the platforms in the last gen consoles, and for this gen the processing power difference.

I still think it has more to do with licensing cost and less to do with fear for competing with Nintendo's quality titles - which is you admitting how Nintendo's best titles are seen by the industry and the consumers.

Yes, Mario is better than anything on the xbox or playstation.

Most Nintendo purists will tell you most months are met with a handful of titles. If the trend is passing or we are just lucky this month - it doesnt make me wrong.

A lot of playstation and xbox games are multiplatform. And the exclusive titles arent a shadow on Nintendo's exclusive titles.

It still comes down to "better to have a console with a handful of quality titles than a library of dud ones"

And you and me have both admitted Nintendo make the best games by perception of game developers and consumers.

It was a bit of an impulse buy when i got it as i thought wii sports would be fun and that there would be some good sports games available for it. I barely play mine now. so much more could be done with this console i feel, especially with maybe a good cricket and tennis game to take advantage of the wimote. I`m a bit sick of all the games featuring mario and his buddys. I dont think the wii is a bad console, its just not for me.

Seriously though, I don't care what your opinion is. This post was about someone expressing his displeasure and disappointment with the wii console, and his intentions to have fun on another console. Please respect his opinion.

If your having fun on the wii, then great, good for you (no sarcasm implied). But other people don't (myself included). People have different tastes and preferences when it comes to games. You obviously are very satisfied with your purchase, and no doubt have gained alot of fun from the FEW titles nintendo have developed for the wii. Other people haven't. In fact, my wii has been collecting dust for the past 3 and a half months, when I've only had it for about 4 and a half months.
I played legend of zelda: tp on gamecube, and it was good, but no oot. Wii sports was great, but got boring VERY quickly. Didn't play MP3 for more than 30 minutes, instead, I sold it. Played mario galaxy, loved the graphics and sound but sadly gameplay was missing. The most fun I've had on the wii was with RE4 wii, a game I completed about 2 years ago on the gamecube. I've played alot of other wii games...but suffice to say RE4 is the only one I really enjoyed. Pretty poor track record.

Halo 3 was o.k., in fact it was pretty crap given all the hype surrounding it, and Mass Effect was insanely good. I'd put it next to RE4 and zelda oot any day. This game was godly good.
Put simply, I've had SO MUCH fun with my 360 already, despite playing FAR fewer games on it than I did my wii. And the best thing is, there are plenty, and I mean an abundence of games that I think I'm going to enjoy. To name a few: gears of war, bioshock, burnout paradise, eternal sonata, and DMC4 - none of which are on the wii, wheras if I had my wii (I still do by the way but not for long) I'd have ZERO games to play.

So basically, I've tried the wii, didn't like it. Got a 360, and had the most fun I've had with a console since the snes/n64 days, probably more. In fact, now I look back and think what an idiot I was to stick with nintendo through the gamecube and STILL get a wii. I highly, highly doubt I'd get a wii, or another nintendo console again after playing the few 360 games I have. Not even for a new zelda or a new goldeneye. Give me mass effect any day

The point is, horses for courses. the wii may not suit noremac, please respect that, even though the wii suits you.

I like nintendo, I think they make excellent though somewhat tired games now,
