No, you don't need the usb wifi adapter to go online to play mario strickers. This is if you already have a Wireless router or Wireless modem.

Obviously if you don't have a Wireless modem or router, then you will need the Wifi adapter or LAN adapter to get you going on the internet with your Wii.

nintendo's usb connector.... i too used to have constant problems. it's not the usb. but your poorly maintained pc's. i register repair, disc clean & defrag once a week. first of it took a few hours. now all in 15 minutes! keep your pc regularly tuned & clean kids. your usb will never play up again! mine hasn't....
