In Australia, modchips are NOT ILLEGAL. Laws have passed because the big wigs realised that people want the choice to purchase their games overseas and play them on their aussie pal consoles.

It does, however void you warranty on your console.

Yes you can play copied/"backup" games. If people choose to abuse this, so be it. There's nothing we can do. Just as long as you don't break the rules of most forums and talk about it.

And for all those people out there trying to have a go at people about modchips and being bad to pirate games, take a look at yourself. No one is innocent from piracy. If you own something that can record/burn, then its a given you are already pirating. There is nothing worse than people saying "oh, i never pirate anything" then trying to put down everyone else around them. You are still guilty of piracy - perhaps in a different form.

Simply because they can. Some people love the thrill of cracking and hacking through system firmware and being able to manipulate the standard software to do other things originally not intended to be used on it.

There's a modchipping magazine in newsagents that goves you LEGAL information on modchips and other "chip" related information. The name of the magazine slips me but you'll know what it is when you see it.

take adobe 4 example. on the flipside, although its pirated software, this also works in adobe's favour, why would they offer full working trials for download without charge? more users = more cash money. yes its a trial but with the distribution of this full working software, it has that much of an install base it has become the design industry standard. why stop something that is making your product the strongest in the market? Don't promote it, but don't stop it!

Precisely because that program does one specific thing, and does it very, very well.

That you support the piracy of one type of product, but malign people who pirate another type, is hipocrisy.

The NTSC and PAL versions are different, but not in terms of gameplay or content (aside from censored content). The difference is in how the game displays on your screen.

In the world of gaming, there are 2 types of gaming formats.

NTSC and PAL

NTSC is the analog television system in use in Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, the United States, Mexico, and some other countries, mostly in the Americas. It is named for the National Television Standards Committee.

and PAL is

Phase Alternating Line, is a colour encoding system used in broadcast television systems in large parts of the world. Other common analogue television systems are SECAM and NTSC.

You don't need to have your Wii modded unless you want to import games from places such as America, which makes your console "region-free".
