The only thing we disallow regarding modchips is the direct sale of modchips or modchipped consoles on a MyMedia site. That means placing WTS/WTB ads on a forum or placing an ad for it in MyGames. You are otherwise allowed to talk about everything concerning modchips, including what they do, where to get them and where to install them.

I have explained this four times in as many days. This makes five. Another example of people being too bloody lazy to read the Rules, and then having the gall to naysay something about which they have no clue.

We already do this. Bans and suspensions are the same thing — both are temporary.

Now a permaban is something entirely different.

If you knew what really went on you would understand why permabans are placed. People make trouble for fun. Accounts are created just to send unsolicited Private Messages, or to harass a single user, or to crapflood as many threads as possible. Should we, as unpaid volunteers, suspend a user for a set period of time, only to have to deal with the same problem all over again when the suspension expires?

As for those people saying the rules here are too strict, you have not seen enough of the internet. There are places where you get warnings and bans for posting an image that is 123Kb in size, when Admins have stated that images may only weigh up to 100Kb. There are places where putting a thread under the wrong category will get you a warning. That is strict moderation, and if you think that kind of thing is unfair, then welcome to the Real World: there is more where that came from.

No, they think you're liberal.

Also, I hope everyone understands that the more of these threads and discussions are created, the more lulz is brought to the fore. There is nothing funnier than people thinking that something insignificant is in fact very serious indeed.

talk to roy about rerun not being admin, he's the one who does that...and no offence... but it might have to do with the fact that thers a lot of people posting
"theres to many admins"
"admins dont all work together and govern the same"
adding another admin, would make things worse....

Anyway, im sorry that i come across strict...i dont like being stict...but we do work together...and the reason u see "un-consistency" is because me or maybe desi will ban the person and warn them publicly etc....Chamb will talk on msn more or rather chat it out...or he'll just ask me to do it
so the admins are on the same plane...i think i'd just like to make that clear to everyone...
Thx

I think there needs to be a new set of rules for admins like right now admin can judge the situation and make a decision but I think it should be more set in stone like:

swearing one warning swear a second time banned for 24 hours swear when you get back banned for life maybe thats to strict but if you get my point because right now some admins are really strict like pyro, desi..... etc and some are more linenent like cham-balam, moosechild......etc both are fine I would just like some more consistency by the way I think rerun should be made admin and I am wondering why he isn't admin already

I think the rules are fine as they are. As far as I can tell, aslong as you're not personally attacking someone then you can state your honest opinion. Every 'society' needs rules and without them this place would be one big flaming session. We get enough morons coming on this site just to attack people, imagine what it would be like if it was a free-for-all!

I act on this site as I would in real life. I show respect for those around me, but I will have no problems debating someone if my opinion differs or I think they are wrong. I love a good debate as much as the next person, it's when people resort to talking about people's mum's or calling them pathetic names that I usually walk away. I wouldn't hang around a mean person like that in real life, so why would I stay in a forum that allows it.

This site runs extremely well the way it is. To change the rules would be to change the site and I wouldn't like that to happen.

$#%^$% that is the kind of swearing happens with me. I end up spamming the hell out of it due to anger or excitement =)

I don't see what's wrong with the rules right now. However if this site was to turn into a free-for-all forum then I'd have to say I would probably start to ignore most posts.

I am worried my post has opened a can of worms that didn't really need opening. The site does run very well as is.
It was more of an open for discussion topic.
I have full confidence in the admins. I disagree with people saying I like this admin and I don't like that one, that is not what this site is about.
Fair enough and have this poll but in all honesty this site is one of the cleanest and quite recently it is starting to come up with some hot topics good debates and interesting content.
Let's nurture what we have here before we lose it.
I think the current rules are good as long as all admins abide by them also and try to operate as one instead of 20 different people governing the same country in differenet ways.

Elraro said: I reckon the site needs to unwind a little with the rules.

A lot of people are afraid of being completely themselves or expressing their opinion fully on this site for fear of persecution (banning). As a result, not nearly enough people are discussing piracy, religion or any other morally controversial related topics for fear they will be banned for "flaming" or breaching the site rules. Basically, a lot of people believe they're bound and caged to one spot.

Allow some room to vent, I say. But of course keep it at a controlable level that won't get everyone in trouble (eg. no tolerance for topics encouraging piracy but allow for discussions as to WHY you're opposed/for the concept).

The problem lies not in that the rules we've set are too strict, but that people have not fully informed themselves. Many people here and on the other thread are saying that MyWii is over-regulated, but I doubt that more than two or three of them have read and comprehended the rules we've codified.

You can find the rules in one of the Guides. Please read it. Please understand it. You'll find that we frown upon religious attacks, not mere discussion, and certainly not civilised debate. You'll find that the only topic we have expressly banned
that does not relate to the harassment of another member is the sharing of ISO sources.
