Thank Nintendo Japan for NSMBW's Red Box, but it's One Off

We love New Super Mario Bros. Wii's red case, just like the gold Zelda N64 carts. Our good friend Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, has told kotaku that "it was an NCL idea," referring to Nintendo's Japanese office.

"New Super Mario Brothers is such a special title," Reggie said, "It is something that [Mario creator Shigeru] Miyamoto and his team have been so passionate about — that when it came time for the final packaging, we had many internal discussions as to how we make it special."

"And that's where the idea of the red box came from: How do we signify to our Nintendo fans, to our greater community the specialness of this title? The red is Mario red."

Unfortunately Reggie mentioned that this is strictly a one time offer and that we shouldn't hold our breath for other coloured cases. We can always hope they change their mind and bring out a gold case for the next Zelda. Although, we may be living in the past.

*Looks at DK 64, LOZ: OoT and all the Pokemon main games up to this gen, and Stadium 2*

I wish this trend makes a comeback, but oh well...

A glossy gold case for the next Zelda would be great. It's too bad it's most likely to not happen.

I love the idea of having the red case. It really is something special to look at. But I don't get why Zelda should be gold...why not green to actually match Link?

But I doubt this would be the one off. They've done it before(Pokemon games, the Zelda that was mentioned) is I think they'd do it again. But with those extra special titles.

Because every main Zelda game came on a Gold cartridge.

IIRC didnt Twilight Princess come on a gold coloured disc?

Vextroid: Oh. I did not know that. Not much of a Zelda fan. Sure I'll play the new ones out, but not a big enough fan to take much notice of that.

Also, the coloured discs aren't really a new thing. Well now they've started printing fully coloured images on then, but they did do the one colour printing on the discs.

It's funny because I haven't seen an OoT that isn't gold. I would love to see a gold case for the next Zelda! =D

Because the Triforce is gold. I think it started back on the NES, if I remember correctly the first Zelda had a gold NES cartridge.

hehe I am looking at this one right now on my shelf. That was a REALLY good special packaging. Then there were the holographic carts (that never reached PAL territories) and then we got the red cases beginning with MKDD (admittedly the weakest MK game) and while WW was gold as well, they also realized that more attention should be given to the actual case so they pain it red.

WHERE ARE THE COLLECTOR'S EDITIONS? See this is why people say Nintendo only caters to kids and casuals. I WILL PAY 10 more quid for a special edition and in the case of SMBWii I believe I speak on behalf of ALL the Mario fans who have played the series games from its 2D roots.
