Nintendo Australia has announced that the Wii has sold over one million units in Australia since it's launch in December 2006. They also boasted that the Nintendo was the best selling console of the year in 2008 for the third consecutive time.
All statistics have been delivered by industry tracker, the GfK, who monitor videogame sales on a weekly basis. They state that the Wii reached the 1 million unit milestone in 111 weeks, meaning it has broken the record for fastest console to reach one million sales, previously held by the Nintendo DS which managed the feat in 152 weeks. In 2008 685,000 Wii consoles were sold, of which 191,000 were sold in December alone.
On the software front 8 out of the top 10 games where on a Nintendo platform. Note that the number next to the game denotes it's position in the top 10 charts.
