The Wii's mature to family friendly (also often referred to as hardcore to casual) games ratio is low, very low, on the wrong side of the line. Fortunately Sega see this as an opportunity to capitalize on a neglected market.
Sega want to make the most out of what they see as a weakness in the Wii's software lineup. SEGA of Europe's Alan Pritchard cites the success of Resident Evil 4 & Red Steel, success targeted to a demographic that has since been neglected on the Wii. "But since then, many publishers have migrated towards the more mass-market family titles," says Pritchard, including Sega with releases such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, "so perhaps there hasn’t been the array or depth of hardcore titles on Wii. So there is definitely opportunity here."
Sega are definitely putting their money where their mouth is with upcoming titles including Mad World, House of the Dead: Overkill and The Conduit.
