Wii News \ Wii Music To Be in American Schools

Nintendo recently sent out a press release saying that they will be putting Nintendo Wii's and Wii Music in 51 selected schools all throughout America, to try to get kids more appreciative and more involved with music.

Cammie Dunaway had this to say:
The goal of Wii Music is to inspire people of all ages to enjoy music
She went on:
By partnering with educators and bringing Wii Music into their classrooms, we hope to give students a memorable, hands-on experience that helps them discover their own creative voice.

I definitely think it would help attract the students to playing an instrument! But I can see the students fighting over whose turn it is and end up turning the wiimote into a wiibaseball bat.

In Animal Crossing you have to design a town tune.

In doing that you have a high and low version of A, B, C, D, E, F, G

Although the sharp and flat are missing it is still good for a muck around.

This familiarises you with all the notes and playign around with them to get different tunes.

In Mario paint you also got to place icons on a blank music sheet to make music. This could help teach you how to read sheet music.

In Wii Music - nothing. Its just a noise maker for kids.

I suggest they redo it using the above two examples. Something that would really teach kids music.

Wii music doesnt teach you anything about music. You just press buttons and wave your instrument around to a song playing in the background.

The teacher could just as easily play a song on a CD player and get the kids to use their rulers or pencils.
