Miyamoto Discusses the Finacial Crisis and Gaming

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has spoken about a controversial issue in gaming, the hefty prices we are forced to pay especially in regards to the current global financial crisis. Speaking in an interview filmed in the UK (see video below) Miyamoto reassures us about his his beliefs when it comes to violent games compared to those the whole family can enjoy and manages to slip in a plug for Wii Music. When the man known as Mr.Nintendo was question if "Wii Music is too expensive" considering the global financial crisis Miyamoto said "We need to eat in order to live, that's our first priority. But entertainment and the enrichment of our souls must come in second place." Wii Music retails for the standard RRP of AUD$99.95 when it debuts in Australia on November 13, many have questioned the reality of this pricing.

Going back to his views on family friendly titles he continues "I don't want to curb freedom of expression but I am concerned that many developers' focus is on excessive violence in order to stimulate people's minds. I believe that there are more ways of grabbing players attention than violence alone."

That is so true, time after time I hear games having so much bloody and guts violence in it, and people jump on the game because of that. But a game doesnt have to have an axe waving psychopath in it for the game to be fun!

Yep, its pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I just thought of something, they shouyld include a pack with like...different musical attachments for the Wii-mote, maybe the Baton(I think thats the word) that people use to conduct the orchestras.

For us US gamers that is about 65 US dollars. I'm not gonna pay that much for a cheaply made casual game with awful controls. You can get Half Life2: Orange Box, (Packed in with Halflife2, HL2 episode 1, HL2 episode 2, portal, and team fortress 2) for half that crap.

Honestly, even considering the current financial crisis, Australia has ALWAYS gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to Gaming prices. The problem is that our distributors are charged WAY too much & the difference has to be made somewhere.

Just look at the AUD when it was nearing parity with the USD. We STILL had to pay $100 to their $60-65 for games.

As for violent games, PC's will eventually take over that market in any case. The Wii is awesome because it has a fun personalised-arcade feel to it Though, in saying that, GTA IV on the Wii would have been magical.
