RUMOUR: Wii Repair Disk

Fresh to the Wii rumour Mill comes this one from a Wiinewz member. It is being reported that someone has found a Repair disk in their Wii after having it repaired and return from Nintendo much the same way that Pandora's Box became available for the PSP.

If the disk is real then we may be able to say good bye to to Duplicate channels and be able to restore our Wii's to their factory form.

As yet the contents of the disk haven't been released to the net so at this point it is purely a rumour but if this does turn out to be real... well.. its time to celebrate..

fake i could get one there are places that print things onto a disc some people buy them and i mean if it is real yahoo but dont mean to be a spoil sport for some people but nintendo would hve said saomthing but now

so if it restores to factory settings isnt it the same as formatting?
does formatting solve the DUP. channels ?

An annoyance yes,but what other secrets would this disk reveal... who knows. If its real then only time will tel. If its fake.. ahh well it was fun while it lasts!!!

True, I have duplicate channels, but I don't care about them at all. I just move them to the last page like you said and forget about them.

fakey soooooo much i sent my wii in a few weeks ago and in fact 7 of my friends and plus most of the problems they and i had were with the reader and i agree wii can only read not write. but they could start selling different wiis but i dont think they will with the ds and ds lite. peace out

Where does it say anything about writing anything? You mention the Wii reading but it is becoming obvious to me that people aren't reading.

I don't think it's necessarily a fake. As far as I know, Nintendo does reimburse any channels you have if your Wii is damaged beyond repair, so it's very possible this might be the disc they use to do it. And if it is, it may be the key to unlocking the DRM technology used on Virtual Console and Wiiware titles.

But, of course, we still don't know if the disc is real or what it actually does.

Trust me the disk is real. It can be used for backing up the wii, including all your channels. This is known, but we are waiting to see what else it can do. There arent any secret menu's so what you see is what you. Still trying to confirm if you can do a higher level factory default format to remove the Duplicate channels.

Will keep you posted.. hehe.

Looks to me from the above screenshot that it just runs some sort of backup program to copy all channels from one Wii onto an SD card to allow you to transfer it to the repaired Wii or replacement. One thing that is interesting is the 'Change WiiId' option. Would it allow us to spoof our own WiiIDs so that we could run somebody else's channels perhaps?

Formatting is different. Wii's don't have HDDs, do they? I didn't think so...

Restoring the settings would just mean setting up your wireless and ratio again. And maybe loosing your Mii's and saves.

It would be like when you very first connected your Wii and turned it on...
