Just for you stormy......
The Drive chipset is what controls the DVD drive. It is also the access point for the installation of Modchips. You see when you insert a game into the drive, the drive checks the disk to see if its legitimate, and then sends a signal to the processor to say yes start the game. If its a copied game then a different signal will be sent. What the modchip does is intercept this signal and inject a Legitimate signal so the game starts. D2A and D2B were the original Chipsets and were easy to install modchips to. Then D2C (as pictured above) and it was completely different. This created a big wait while people worked out how to get a modchip installed o it that would operate correctly. Then came D2Ckey.
So when a new Chipset is released alarm bells ring, as it could mean a few months of sleepless nights and also the death of current modchips.
