Wii Hardware \ No Image Nor Sound with Component Cord

As crazy as it sounds I get nothing from my Wii when using the component cord.

I can safely say it's not the TV's fault as it use Component Video on my PS2 and I even plugged the RCA cord back into the Wii to ensure it was OK.

Am I right in thinking it's the cord or is there something else I can try?

Nintendo should have labeled the box properly then as you comment implies the cable is Progressive scan only.

For the record, I currently have the Wii set to 50Hz @ 480i. Surely the cord can work at that setting, right?

Yes, Trebla, I did. I had to dismantle it and put it back in it's box to make room for the Wii. I intend to try the cord on another TV to see if the cord really is dead. I tried 5 times and checking the plugs each time to no avail.

Forgive me I should have asked this more clearly at the start of this thread.

I ask this, will the component cable work on TVs that DO NOT have progressive scan?

I have gone to the channel labeled 'Component', nothing.

I changed the setting of the Wii from 50 @ 480i to 60 @ 572i (for more compatability), nothing.

I even tried unplugging the Wii for a full hard reset. Nothing.

What else is there that I can do? The curious thing is, there is no sound either and the two channels are independent.

If you are not getting a picture or sound then something may be wrong with the cable itself.

Well, the component input on my TV doesn't support 480i - it only supports 480p and above. So, this caused a problem with pluging in consoles that have been previously set to 480i - you can't change to 480p when using composite, but then you can't see anything to change it over when you use component?

The solution was to plug the green component cable into the YCbCr inputs - this gave a black and white image that allowed me to see thigs so I could change it to 480p - the image then splits in 2 and looks really messed up, but then looks perfect when plugged into the Component input. If you have seperate YCbCr and YPbPr inputs then try this - it should work

For some reason, the TV I was using allowed the PS2 to use component video but not the Wii. I guess it must be a compatibility issue with the TV (or it have a thing against Nintendo).

As for the problem of no sound, I think it has to do with the fact I couldn't press 'A' on the WiiMote to enter the console. So the situation was it was at the start screen and I hadn't pressed 'A' to enter the channel menu.

Thankyou all for you help. I'll keep what is said here for future use.

Nah, mate. All clean. Check the cables a number of times, went through the setting on the TV and still got nothing.

So for a last effort, I took the Wii into another room and plugged it into my el cheap-o 30 cm TV.

Worked without a hitch so I think the TV is not compatible. [url www.eurogamer.net/ [/url] furthers my assumption.
