Mario's been there since the very beginning of Nintendo and has become a household name. Not as many people know who Link is. In fact, a lot of people think his name is "Zelda" because of the title of the series.

Errr....and Mario hasn't? Mario paved the way for platformers since the very beginning. The only thing Zelda's done is follow a pretty basic hack n slash path. Hardly consider it paving the way for anything, though.

Mario is old so is link they both have been around for about 20 years. It's about which of their games sells better and you know that all mario games sell the best. Lets face it if link became the new mascot there would be Zelda Kart, Zelda golf, Zelda tennis, zelda super strikers now that would just not work. As Elraro said Zelda hasn't paved the way for anything, where Mario paved the way for platformers and nearly every platformer has copied mario. But I don't think any game has copied Zelda cause Zelda hasn't got anything to copy. I'm sorry but mario will always be the mascot for nintendo.

While I do love my Zelda games, and would rather play a decent Zelda game that a Mario one, Link just wouldn't work as a Nintendo mascot. He's just not Nintendo enough!

Link's only one type of game, Mario is a lot more versatile and so are the characters surrounding him. He's fun and bouncy, and kids and adults alike can relate to him. Link would give a whole different feeling if he was portrayed as the mascot, dark and deep thinking, I don't think that's what Ninty are aiming for.

Link? LINK!!! Link couldn't be Nintendo's mascot, it just wouldn't be right. Mario is the man for the job and he's always been Nintendo's guy, you can't just kick him out for Link. Link wouldn't suit being Nintendo's mascot. Mario is best suited as the Nintendo mascot and everybody loves him and knows him as Nintendo's mascot, no one will ever replace Mario and no one should, he's even had more adventures than link and he's done a lot more.

there would b no games such as final fantasy and other such game

it was also the 1st game to have battery save rather than a code to contiune ur game maybe u suld de research first mate

The first Final Fantasies were totally different to Zelda and paved its own path for rpg development on got most of its influences from the Dragon warrior series. You have to realise that Zelda is more of an adventure game than an rpg. If Zelda wasn't the first game to have a battery save then another game would have taken that technology. Battery save is a product of technological advancement not creative game innovation. And considering you think Link is a capcom character:
