And especially since they got as far as they did, didn't they make it through two checkpoints before they got caught? This would of made the police feel a bit dumb, they'll probably charge them just to boost their egos.

Personally, I think they should be given free range at the APEC summit too. Not only would it hilarious, it'd test the security for the Apec guys to help them prevent actual threats.

they area being charged with 'entering a restricted area' and that carries a maximum of 6 month jail. with this the chaser made an announcement that they did not intend to enter a restricted area and when they knew how far in they were they decided to turn back and that is when they were caught.

Anyway, I had a little read of ninemsn. A statement from the producers..

"The motorcade proceeded down Macquarie Street with the permission of police.
When the Chaser reached the perimeter of what they thought was the APEC restricted zone, they voluntarily turned around.
The police only detained the Chaser motorcade when it was turning around and after Chas Licciardello emerged from a car dressed as Osama bin Laden."

Well, they are doing good for more then 1 million viewers each week, who they entertain with their crazy antics. They knew there was consiquences, but that's what comes with the package.

I also find it ammusing that when someone dresses up in white robes, a tubin and slap on a beard, the media automatically assumes it's an immitation of Osama Bin Laden. The media is somewhat prejudice like that...
