Hmm. That's a bit of a pickle to answer. The Wii has quite a lot of games which are better in multiplayer as well as a whole lot of great Single player games coming out very soon.

The 360 is a great machine offline, playing single player as well. There are a whole lot less party games/multiplayer games than the Wii. Having said that, most games on the 360 that involve multiplayer are done basically online.

I think ultimately, if you do have the money, buy the 360. If you have enough after that, buy the Wii as well. That's what I ended up doing.

No, if you have the money, buy a PC. You can hook a PC up to an HDTV (if picture size is a big deal for you), and PC does everything right, at a better price, than a console can.

For example, free multiplayer with voice support (and sometimes webcam), customisable controls, better graphics, longer, more complex games and a wealth of downloadable games and content, most of which is free.

If you're a serious gamer with the cash, and you buy a console over a PC, shame.

Gee, I reacon you would have to spend over $2000 to be able to play all the games that are available. Actually, scratch that, I reacon around $3000-$4000 if you include running to SLI cards, at $1000 a pop.

I gave up on PC games years ago. Too many compatibility issues with graphics and sound, too expensive to keep up with the graphical power required of newer games.

If you want to go down this route, by all means, go ahead. I just prefer buying a game, popping the disc into the console, and it running properly, without worrying as to whether the game will work or not.

My answer would be, neither console is, in my opinion, best for playing single-player. I think that a PC has the best (single-player) games, and will continue to have the best games into the future.

Besides — with game development becoming more and more expensive, publishers and developers are being forced to release a game on as many platforms as possible to maximise profit. That's why so many 360 games are coming to PC, and it only gets bigger from there.

I hate to imagine what PC specs are required to get Gears Of War running on PC to run like the 360. Somehow, I don't think my 9800XT ain't going to cut it...

No, PC specs would be reasonable to run GoW — if the developers did better than a lazy console port.

The Strangleshock 360-to-PC port, for example, has alarmingly high system specs: including 2GB RAM and 15GB of HD space. That's minimum specs, man. The 360 doesn't need that to run Strangleshock — it doesn't even have 2GB of RAM. The high specs are simply because it is a lazy port, and nothing better.

For greater emphasis, that game's specs are ridiculously high compared to an upcoming and very hyped PC game called Bioshock.

And Bioshock looks like this:

It can use either DX9 or DX10 (better effects on DX10).

See, then it get's even more complicated. There aren't too many cards on the market at the moment that has full support for DX10. It seems as though PC games are being developed to run perfectly on PC's that aren't quite fast enough, graphics cards that aren't enough, not for at least 6 months, which, by that stage, everybody has gotten over the game when the newer hardware does come out. I can't imagine a lot of PC people now with their SLI cards going back to run Doom 3 on maxxed out settings, since most likely they would've clocked the game already!

PC all the way.
games get patched, games get expansion packs, and compatability issues are rare now. only problem with pc is in 6 years, xbox 360 or wii new games will still work on xbox360 or wii, pc games on 6 year old pc, good luck!
long term console is probably cheaper.

time to upgrade then. i'm still using an old ABIT board with AGP! hmmmm i wonder what the best board is out there now?

anyway, if you can't afford a PC then i reckon a 360 is probably the next best thing to playing PC games.

I'm in your boat, P4 3.2ghz. 1 gb RAM. Still a very fast PC, i'm happy with for the time being.

My next upgrade will be at this stage the Intel Core 2 Duo 3ghz. That would be sweet.

Josh also check out the AMD X2's.
Yeah I know I didn't think they were any good anymore either (C2D here) but apparently they have bumped up the FSB big time and they crank harder than the C2D.

These days you can build a decent box for about $1400 it's awesome.

One major plus consoles have over PC is that they never need to upgrade to handle a game and are optimized from the start.

I like the game library on the 360 more than Wii but the console is so unreliable...I'd wait for the elites to come out...or check PS3.

Thanks for the advice. So the AMD X2's, are they anywhere near 1333mhz FSB? Haha. Most likely I will be building my PC bit by bit, unless I get a whole lot of money. Either way, I will be building it myself.

Oh wow, thread got hijacked by PC backers.

New thread, perhaps? Sounds like a good conversation.

And yeah, $1400 gets a perfectly good computer. A bit more than mid-high–end.

Come on, Desi, if this guy had $1400 (minimum!) to spare he wouldn't be asking which console to choose; he'd buy both.

I believe you are correct that many 360 games will also be released on PC but how many Nintendo games do you think will be multi-platform? - ZERO!, that's how many.

I totally disagree with the whole "P.C. is better" argument; games that are made for a specific console are often as good as anything made for P.C. and a console is a hell of a lot cheaper. - I know I've never had to buy new drivers for my 360, just so I could play the latest games...

And, "free multi-player", you say? IDFTS! WoW isn't free and neither are half of the P.C. games out there.

If you're such a proponent of P.C. gaming, why are you a moderator on My*Wii*?

Buying drivers? No free multiplayer? Your experience with PC gaming is quite clear.

You've never tried to go online with an FPS, or with a strategy game or a racing game, or even with an RPG? The vast majority (I'm talking 95% or more) of PC games have free online multiplayer because, aside from MMOs (like WoW), the PC community would simply not abide pay-to-play multiplayer; for years we've had a free online multiplay experience that XBL is only just catching up to — and people pay at least AU$80 per year for that. That's why Games For Windows Live is getting so much resistance.

I'm here because I have a Wii. Just because I'm on MyWii, does not mean I have to be a fanboy. Nintendo doesn't defecate roses.

kolpol9 said: How do you hook up a PC to a TV?

You'd have to check your TV inputs and your PC outputs. You could do it by S-Video, or HDMI, or even a direct VGA or DVD-I plug.
