In the US they have cut the price of the playstion 3 by 17%, around $100 to try and compete with xbox360. You can pick up a 60gig PS3 for $499 in the US, with currency conversions that's about $600 Australian, although Australian's usually get milked so don't expect a big drop here.

I loved it and enjoyed it even with everyone saying things like I was crazy. And the price dropped and dropped until the price it is at today.

But look at how things panned out. The PS2 has kicked ass with the amount of consoles they sold. Personally if you have the money and you want it now go buy it or wait until the price drops. Sony arent doing anything wrong. They are just operating within the standard cycle of pricing.

Already they're offering packages with two games and PS3 for $989. It would start to sway into the maybe I'll buy it catagory if they hit the 600-700 mark. Still think the Wii is miles better value, even if the graphics are not as good.

As with any manufacturing the fist period is always hard. You are manufacturing something new. But once sales forecasts are more acurate, and you have your operations down pat and running smoothly you then begin to make more profit.

Sony will do alright with this console...not as good as with the PS2 as their wasnt such a playing field. Xbox was there but Xbox is Microsoft and we all know what people think of MS.

Bloomberg is reporting half the reason for the price cut is the Ps3 is now profitable.

I wonder whether the "discounted" version will last or go the same way the 20gig version went because people just don't want to buy a second rate version? If that happens then in effect it will be more like a slight spec boost and bundled game rather than an actual price drop.
