weird - works out of the box for us. the kids play it is duel mode all the time. on the selection screen you are selecting the icon on the bottom left yeah? the top right one is the wifi one i think.

Just keep trying to connect both through the controller options. Press home on a Wiimote and go Re-Sync controllers.....Hopefully should work!
