Wii Hardware \ Australian Wii Success?

As some of you may know Australia is filled with PS and Xbox loyal fan-boys that have insisted on firmly imprinting in their minds that, 'Nintendo is gay and for kids'.

So here comes the question, How well do you think the Wii is going to sell in Australia?

Some Points:

*Because the Wii is so different and cheap gamers might choose to own a Wii as well as a xbox360 or ps3.

*A lot of advertising is being done by Nintendo and the public, probably the most advertised Nintendo console to date.

*Nintendo is setting up 'Play Wii' events around malls in Aus, great promotion for non-gamers > wiievents.nintendo.com.au/

*Will non-gaming Australians take a liking to the Wii, boosting sales dramatically?

*According to the Australian Bureau of Stats, the current Australian population is 20,707,230.

NEW POINT
*According to wiki, the GameCube sold 21 million units worldwide (over 16 million being in USA and Japan), compared to 111.25 million PlayStation 2 units and over 24 million Xbox units.

Current Wii estimated sales (North America only at the moment) > nexgenwars.com

WRONG! Many people you speak to will not have heard of the wii or have not seen it publically advertised.

*Nintendo previous consoles have usually sold well in the USA and Japan, but not Australia.

WRONG! The cube is really the only nintendo that didnt beat the competition.

this is surprising, given that the PSP would seem to appeal to that core group of aussie games.

so i think the wii will do well. EB and all the games departments of the stores have huge amounts of wii promotional material, so exposure is definitely there.

The only reason I know about the Wii is because I know a really hardcore gamer who has since fallen from the title of hardcore to frequent gamer, but anyway he told me about the Wii back when it was the revolution and it was only about2 months ago that i was like wow this actually looks like s pretty sweet console. Nintendo have really been lazy with the TV advertising in AUS but that's Nintendo Australia's fault. I think the gameboy pocket had the most coverage imo as I was pretty young at the time and with no internet or way of finding out about it other than TV even I was aware of it and got it at launch.
