Virtual Console & WiiWare \ problem with GC controller

I just downloaded mario 64 and tried to play it with my generic gamecube controller. It said that I need a classic controller when I ran the game, but the specs say different. Anyone else have this trouble?

I used Cube controls for Nes, Snes, and N64 games. I don't know why you can't do the same? I use Classic Control now for all of them anyway.

Fixed. I went a got a genuine GC controller today and it worked fine. For some annoying reason VC games don't like my generic one, but I can play GC games with it.
