"Nintendo just broke word that the Wii has overtaken the Xbox 360 as the best selling current-generation console in the United States, with a 10.9 million strong install base, according to the NPD Group. That means Nintendo sold at least 700,000 Wiis in the country in June. We're waiting on final NPD numbers for all console manufacturers, expected later in the day. As of last month, the previous hardware champ, the Xbox 360, stood strong at 10.2 million units sold.

We have yet to get comment from Nintendo of America, but will assume for now that they're pleased."

Interesting stuff, even if I dont give a **** about sales. Oh well, at least 360 still gets an amazing lineup of games.

Since there's butt load of Wiis out there I think it's time we start seeing some "awesome games" come out. Marketing for the casual gamer is all well and good and it's put Nintendo sales through the roof and given alot more people some good entertainment, but I would like Nintendo to channel some energy into making games for gamers. The Gamers that supported Nintendo from the NES days right through to the Game Cube. Have Nintendo forgoten about us?

It has always been that when a company creates a console, it costs alot for them to produce, which is why it's usually set at a high price. Even despite the high price the console still costs more to produce than what they are selling it for. Which is why 99% of the companies who make the consoles make their money through the games sold. It has always been like this. However, the Wii is the only console that Nintendo hasn't been losing out money on. The Wii costs LESS to produce than what Nintendo is selling it for. And the Wii is still really cheap. So Microsoft has always been at a loss with making the consoles but regaining the profits through games. With the drop of price for the 360, Microsoft needs to make sure they have probebly twice as much games being sold to retain that profit margin. (That is assuming if they drop it half price, but seems unlikely).

companies don't do ANYTHING unless they are making a profit, the price of nearly everything is the equilibrium price (the price the consumers are willing to buy that the producers are willing to sell). The producers (microsoft in this case) have not grown to the massive company they ar

They're getting desperate, so they've dropped the hard drive out of it and created a Wii Sports "competitor" (it has UNO and a couple of other family games), and they're selling it for less than the Wii. I think Target's got a deal for $370. No hard drive (it's a 256Mb card) = poor play (wasn't the whole deal with the original XBox that the hard drive sped up game play?)

Meanwhile, Sony's so desperate they're giving PS3s away with new TVs to try and get the numbers up...
