I sure hope so! Then the wii might start catching up feature-wise to the other 2.

Oh, and please don't write your thread titles in all CAPS. It looks bad, it's against the rules, and on the internet, WRITING SOEMTHING IN CAPS = screaming at the top of your voice.

You wont need to worry about Nintendo releasing one.....

The homebrew scene already has a basic release for OSb support... Its only in Beta stages so its still pretty buggy...

Also they have also release a Gamecube ISO loader from USB (but we dont allow talk of this stuff so I stop there).

This was addressed (in typical non-committal Ninty fashion) in a recent press release from Satoru Iwata.

There is a snippet and a link to the full release on vc-reviews:

i'm concerned that Nintendo has released Wii-Ware without first addressing the storage issue. Where are we supposed to cram all the VC games and Wii-Ware content?

I doubt that Nintendo will opt for a hard drive solution. We may see a firmware update to enable VC and WiiWare games to run off SD cards, but that in itself opens up a different can of worms (hacking/piracy).

We'll just have to wait and see what Nintendo comes up with, but one thing's for sure - this is one issue they seriously need to address.

Some time ago, a license appeared online stating that Nintendo had licensed some USB Mass Storage Drivers. Lets hope they announce something soon to take advantage of that.

That technology doesn't even exist anymore.
It would be 80gb atleast. That's the starting point.

Homebrew is already working with external USB devices. Nintendo better get their act together.

If a company wanted to buy a huge amount of 20GB or whatever size then I'm sure the hard drive manufacturer would. And some still make 40GB, so I doubt it would be at least 80GB.

Exactly MS did it with their 360, Sony did it with their PS3.

I hope they bring out a HDD or at a least firmware update to support one.

I DID refer to 10-15GBs.

A 20gb would be more expensive to manufacture than a 80GB because parts are getting cheaper and 20GB is old technology.
40GBs are only made in a very limited quantity to cope with warranty-returns (in Seagate and WD anyway). Except the PS3 which is Hitachi I believe? I don't wish that filth upon anyone.

They would be stupid to choose a hard drive that small.

They may go with a solid state or flash memory in a USB stick/thumb drive. They could then simply sync in a similar way that apple does with their iPods.

That's what I'd be betting on (that's if I were a betting man).

yeah that does seem like the logical choice

it would be even better if they silently release a firmware update that would let you use your own external hard-drives

SS is more expensive than that of a HDD. It would be flash if it was digital base memory.

Cost is only high when you look at large sizes which I don't think ninty will be, I'm talking small (max 16GB) if it were to be SS.

But anyways, my money will be on a thumb drive with their own syncing software... at least it would be If I were to be betting

Well, we can always hope with all the new homebrew apps coming out that someone will bring out a driver so we can plug any old HD into the usb ports to use.

If I were a programmer, that's what I'd be pushing for.

Solid State devices generally do use flash based memory, and consequently you do not refer to the two as distinct products, a subset use DRAM or SRAM.

Though solid state memory may be more expensive in terms of storage space it tends to be cheaper in terms of access times, energy useage and noise.

Edit: I know this from my learnings.

Further Editing: Also, I cannot think of a single modern storage medium for consumer electronic devices that is not digital, in that a digital system uses discrete values to represent data.
