I'm debating between the Bass and the Drums.
I'm going to rent them not buy

Bass: 20$ per month
Drums: 50$ per month

I really want the drums but everyone says thats it extremly hard. And I would get the bass but my friend just got one. I believe were gunna start a band when we get decent so we dont need 2 basses.

PLEASE HELP ME
Right now I want the Drums 75% and the Bass 25%
Please help!

What do YOU want to play? It's not really a decision for your friend to make for you. If you want to fork out an extra $30 for the instrument that YOU want to play, then go for it.

I find you need to have a natural feel to it.
Example: I am really good at just tapping any beat, anytime, therefore I'm not that bad at drums without even playing them before.

However, I suck really, really bad at guitar. I just don't get how to play it...

If your not gonna sing or play guitar then go for the drums, everyone knows the bassist doesnt get any chicks LOL & the drums are good exercise too. If you end up starting a band you can always then learn to play guutar & bass from your mates later on.

If it's not too late to put in my two cents, Drums aren't that hard if you practice enough, but it is difficult to self teach drums (unless your a prodigy), but it sounds like you'd be more motivated to learn drums so it should work out for you. Good luck

yeah, it sounds like you are already decided on the drums. But know this: I play the drums (and bass), and to get good at either it takes work, and with drumming to get the right technique (e.g. for going really fast), it is just repetition, repetition, repetition.

I've got a couple of mates that have self-taught, they just use the internet, videos and all that.

I've been wanting to start an instrument for a while, just afraid i'll fail miserably. Plus all my mates have been doing it for years, so i'd be totally amatuer haha. Maybe i can just learn to roar and get backup vocals in one of there bands

You should start, if you give it enough time and effort you'll never regret it, and your friends can help out.

I first started with Guitar, because my dad reckoned i should learn it.

Bought a guitar set (Electric, Amp etc. etc.) and played a bit. Got a teacher but then realized I should go to Drums, because Ive always liked banging things, heh.

I sold the Guitar Set for a little under what I bought it for (sold on eBay) and bought a beginner Drum Set. Later on (a few backs back now) I decided it was too hard for me to learn one instrument and got a Les Paul JR, because I loved playing both.

Now alot of people think the Drums are the easiest instrument to learn. "What's so hard about it? Just bang things!".

They couldn;t be more wrong. Sure you could bang on them for the hell of it, but you wouldn;t get a beat or rythm. Just random sounds.

Learning Drums takes time and alot of effort. I play 'casually' (if that's what you want to call it). That is, no teacher but self teach myself new beats every now and then. Go for Drums if you like them, but be aware they take time, effort and good co-ordination.

As for Guitar, well you want to learn Bass and Ive never played Bass, only Electric Guitar so I may not be much help on the instrument. Ive heard from players who've tried both the Bass is easier, so maybe it is. Also cheaper.

Go for what you like. Go to Drum Store (not a music store, a store only selling Drums) ask them things, pricing, difficulty and play on one of the sets they have around. Same for Bass.

I play guitar, drums and piano. Had a couple of years of guitar lessons, and then self taught the other two.

I'd say they they're not really any more difficult that each other when you're starting. They're all difficult.

I just worked through a book for the drums to get some basics going. Especially learning how to read music (rhythm specifically for drums). It may not seem important at the start, but I think the benefits are worth it.

Beyond that the best thing is to just listen to songs that you want to play, and copy everything you hear.

For what it's worth, you don't actually need a drum kit to learn to play drums. Just get some sticks (I'd start with thicker/heavier ones first to develop the muscles in you're arms and wrists), and a book. Tap out the rhythms on a pillow or practice pad sitting on your lap for the snare and hi-hats. Tap your right foot for the bass drums. Then it's just practice, practice, practice.

And most importantly, have fun.
