Wii Hardware \ My Wii Died

Anybody have any ideas on what may be wrong.

A few days ago the local utility had a powersurge.
My Wii went dead. If I pull the power plug from the back of the Wii, the power comes back on, but as soon as I do anything like put a disk in or press a button, the Wii turns off again.

I waited on line for like two hours at 5:00AM last year to get this thing. I need to get this working again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JedK

Maybe your fuse in the back of the wii is gone?

My opinions are in no way meant for harm, but probably for my own enjoyment!

I brought it to the store Gamestop (USA NY) and they don't have any Wii power supplies I could try. I'm going to bring it to a friend's house.

BUT...
Wet_dog and Bryan: The socket is not the problem because there is power to the Wii and my TV. The fuse is probably not the problem. I will look at that though. The reason I say this is because the Wii comes on until I touch a button or the disk drive. Then it shuts down.

More Info:
I'm reluctant to send it to Nintendo because it was "modified" a while ago. The Wii is well over a year old and is not in warrantee anymore anyway.

I'm pretty technical and if someone had a good idea I could probably implement it assuming I have the right tools.

Thanks,
JedK

i remember those too. my sega was crap but whenever i hit it the thing would start working again.

anyway getting on topic. i think the thig has a few shorted out parts in it from the power outage. open it up and then take it to a gamestop or eb games so they can fix it.

/me brushes off his surge protecting power board of +5 awesomeness (it also came with a lifetime warranty to a value of ~$25,000 if its awesomeness should fail for whatever reason).

In all likelihood you have fried something; not being able to get the hardware commercially you are limited to attempting to isolate and repair the problem by buying another broken wii and creating a WiiBorg or sending it to Nintendo to fix, though I don't know whether they offer the service outside of warranty.

Thats a good idea, try another power supply.

A few Q's, does standby work? Is there a disc in there now? As soon and you press a button on the console or remote?

Keep us posted on how you go cause I'm interested in what happens...

Tried another power supply and same result.
So it's the console

Just to review for BBking
The console is dead but if I unplug it and plug it back in it shows power.
As soon as I touch a button it turns off completely and yes there is a disk inside.
The remotes do nothing. Nothing shows on the TV.
The unit was "modified" about a year ago.
It is out of warrantee.

I emailed a few repair services. See what they say. I can't seem to find to many in the USA.

I'm reluctant to send it to Nintendo because of the Mod Chip.
What do you think? Should I just send it to Nintendo and hope for the best?

Actually, it was a power surge, not him.

Very likely that the surge may have shorted one/some of the chips inside. Methinks it may just be dead.
