It wasn't the power surge. Well it could have been while the console was turned off while playing or processing? The power surge would have taken the power supply. And if it was bad enough, taken the Wii. Sounds like the Wii is locking up and has software corruption??
I would try taking it apart, getting the disc out and then seeing what heppens? Could be trying to read the disc at the wrong part??
Does the blue light go on at the disc part? Oh, and the standby light is it staying green or red? If its staying red then could be a sub power board or something...? Its not switching correctly.
