In this video I show what I believe is one of the origins for Marth's sword, why his taunt is in Japanese and why Fire Emblem is very hard to translate into Super Smash Bros. Melee. Having one semester of Japanese under my belt at this point, and with the game being in only hiragana and katakana, I attempt to translate some of Fire Emblem's text, but I am only able to do Marth's name, the word "level," and the name of his sword. Anything I can't translate I romanize followed by a "(?)". I captured the Fire Emblem video with an NES emulator and the SSBM video with my capture device.
