Metroid Prime 3 - Best shooter ever? Let's find out. - 9/10
Hi, welcome to my review of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the third and last installment of the Prime trilogy. Developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo, this was one one of the Wii's most anticipated games. Does it live up to the hype? Let's find out...
Story: I haven't played the first two Metroid Primes, so I had no idea what to expect. All I know is that the space pirates are attacking the Galactic Federation, and there is this pahzon stuff corrupting planets. The story in Metroid Prime 3 revolves around destroying these Leviathan Seeds that have crashed into several planets, and are slowly corrupting them with Phazon. All in all, the story is really great and the cinematics are epic.
Graphics: The graphics are outstanding. Simply awesome. Unlike all the other lame PS2 ports clogging up the Wii's game library, this game really takes advantage of the Wii's hardware, delivering great graphics, a smooth frame rate, and some really nice effects, especially in the cutscenes. And some of those little touches, like Samus' face reflected in the scan visor and stuff, really make the graphics shine.
Controls: Metroid Prime 3 has been commented on for having the best shooter controls ever. I have to agree, the controls are great. They do what you want them to do, and are easy enough to learn. The aiming is almost on par with most PC games, although I still prefer mouse, point and click shooting. It uses the motion controls for a few actions, like grappling things, and activating levers and switches, which is a nice gimmick, although nothing really innovative.
Gameplay: Here we go, gameplay. The most important aspect of any game, and may I say, Metroid Prime 3 isn't lacking. The gameplay can keep you hooked for hours, although it does get boring sometimes. The boss fights are epic, and the difficulty is just right. The scan visor does help alot if you're stuck, and can give some interesting tidbits of information, and it's all recorded in your logbook, which you can check out whenever you want. One ascpect I quite liked was Samus' ship, which you can use to fly to other planets, and save your game. Inside the ship, you can use to wiimote to press random buttons and it really makes it more immersive. You can command the ship to land at special landing sites, pick up certian heavy objects, and even use the missiles to blow up obstacles.
Conclusion: I'm sure there is still alot I haven't covered, but my hands are feeling weird from all this typing. Hope you enjoyed my review, definitely get this game if you can. It will deliver hours of fun.
Story - 9 - Epic, but not very engaging, like some other games are. No sudden plot twists or anything.
Graphics - 10 - Outstanding, crisp, pretty and smooth.
Controls - 10 - Easy to get the hang of, and the aiming is the best of any console game. ever.
Gameplay - 10 - The gameplay is really engaging and fun, and can keep you hooked for quite a while.
(Sorry if there are any mistakes in here, I really can't be bothered proofreading)
