Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japanese Version - "Lost Levels") Reviews \ Detail

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels - 7/10

Story
OK, well let's start off with the "story". Well it's actually the same as SMB, Peach kidnapped, "Princess in another castle" blah blah blah all the same stuff you've heard before, nothing new.
Story score: 5/10

Gameplay
Well, the gameplay...I'm sure all of oyu have played SMB before:You must run and jump through the levels to the flagpole in 8 worlds, destroy a Bowser at the 4th of each world, only to find a Toad. Well, SMB:TLL is basically the same. But with a few notable differences, mainly in difficulty. There are new hazards and enemy attacks that make the game awfully hard, or as Japan thinks, SO hard that US gamers weren't good enough for it. Well I can't blame them. It is just ridiculous at times. The levels themselves are just bullsh*t! The way the obstacles are and the jumps you have to make, the positioning of the enemies, sometimes you just look at it and think "How the f*** are you ment to do that!!??" Certain new features also make the game harder, or in some cases more interesting. Such as a wind, which pushes you forward or backwards, which are usually used to stuff up your jumps. Red Pirahana Plants, which pop up even if you're on the pipe. Hammer Bros that run directly towards you! Green Tramploings that bouce you so high you're off the screen for like 10 sec (they're fun). Not to mention Poison Mushrooms, which, unless you have the All-Star version, you can't tell the difference! The game also has "Backwards Warps" which warp you to a PREVIOUS world, though it's no problem unless you're playing the NES version. Suprisingly, the game dosen't end at 8-4 (which has a fake bowser in the middle of the level, just a fun fact there). Instead, it goes to A world, then B, C, and finally D. D-4 will make you throw watever controller you are using out the window. Trust me, I know how hard it is. Now, I've heard that if you don't use 1 warp in the whole game (DREAM ON) you get to World 9 after D-4. I dunno how hard it is, but presume it's just f***ing hard. Trust me, this game WILL make you say the F word several times. Now, there's no 2-Player in thi game. Instead, the player can choose to be either Mario or Luigi. You may of noticed in SSBM the Luigi runs slower, has terrible traction (skids alot) but he jumps higher than Mario. Well, this games what they got it off. Basically, some levels are better for Mario, and others are better for Luigi. Though for the NES version, I'd imagine you have to pick one for the whole game until you die. The bonus on All-Stars is that you can pick induvidual levels to do. Best friend it is.
Gameplay score: 7/10

Graphics
There are some differences on the NES version. The ground is different, and heaps more rocky looking. Trees also look a little weirder than in SMB. Other than that it's basically the same. Though they could've put graphical changes into more important things, eg. Poison Mushrooms. The All-Star version is basically the same as SMB All-Stars, though they've given the courtesy of changing Poison Mushrooms.
Graphic Score: 7/10

Sound
It's basically the same thing, I'm not sure why I even put this here... though being a sequal, it should've had new tunes.
Sound score 6/10

Overall 7/10
Only play this if you are a SMB master and can finish it easily, otherwise, give up, you'll never complete it.
