I expect they'll come up with a fancier name by 2010. The 'Wii' seemed a little last minute from all that 'Revolution' talk that was going on. They'll prolly make something new and trippy like they always too. Even something as subtle as the DS to the Lite was a major design swing.

I personally couldn't care less if they went all media-device on us or not, it'd just mean I'd never have to buy a x-box or play station console again. Woo for savings!

The ON I'm not too sure about, If they made that I bet it'd be a real neish market. Also It could mean the end of hour upon hour play for more obvious medical reasons. Virtual Boy anyone?

They spent a lot of effort and thought in the name "Wii". Any person without a good English speaking background can pronounce the name, so can little kids. The console is designed to reach everybody, and the name symbolises this philosophy.

Try this with a 1 year old kid. Tell him to say "PlayStation 3", "Xbox 360", and "Wii". Which phrase will he/she get right the first time?

There are other reason, but this is the one i like best as it shows Nintendo's commitment to the Wii console from a design perspective.

I didn't mean it as though they pulled it out of no where without thinking about it. I just mean they spent a lot of time tossing names about before finally releasing the name Wii just before the release. So we can't assume what they'll pick too easily.

Wii is actually a quite ingenious name if everyone can get over the weewee jokes.

I'm stuck on those jokes though Nuttermonk.
I just can't seem to help myself.

Small things and my brain...what a winning combo.

Ever seen a 1 year old playing a Wii 360 or PS3 , I dont see your point. In any case, PS3 & 360 was never designed for kids, the Wii maybe in some ways but I wouldnt let any kid under the age of 5 touch my Wii. My nephew & neices are between 6 & 10 & they are bad enough.

I think they should drop this motion sensing bullcrap and move back into the real gaming market.
They used to be a compettitor back in the day with the same games going to everyconsole rather then ninty getting the movie games and kiddie games htinking "duh this is what people want" "they want shotty graphics bad online and a small range of games yep thats why people buy a gaming console" If they had brought out the wii as a normal console i think they could have surpassed even what the wiii has done. Some people like motion sensins i personaly find it a waste of time as it stuffs up alot and in most games the control is shotty wheares you play that game on 360 or ps3 and it plays like a breeze the wii may be selling heaps but it isnt satifying people needs heap thats why alot of people sell their wii.
Ninty people do want long games....People do want good online...And people do want better graphics for games we dont want to buy a next gen system and sometims have to wonder wait am i playing a vc game o wait no im not its a wii game. Some people dont care about graphics aslong as you have gameplay but rightn ow the wii has no gameplay so Wisen up.

Dude, the motion controls work perfectly, *as long as the programming is correct*. Have you played RE4, Wii Sports Bowling or Metroid Prime 3? - Brilliant.
It's simply that the developers have a learning curve to adjust to, that's all.

The point is the word "Wii" is easily pronounceable, by any person, of any age (almost).. The name is just a symbolism of that spirit... Get it now?
