So if you have an early enough serial number, is the wiikey still the way to go? or are they limited compared to the newer chips?

None. Nintendo does not endorse chipping your Wii console, and since it goes against the design of the entire system, bricking and hardware failures CAN result, despite what chip vendors will tell you (usually because they just want to sell the chips). Whilst the act of chipping the Wii itself is legal, there's moral reasons why you shouldn't, side by side with the danger you put the hardware in.

Long story short, there are more reports of failures then there are reports of success regarding modchips, and the things they allow you to do are illegal anyway.

Do the right thing and enjoy your Wii the way it's supposed to be enjoyed, without potentially damaging internal modification.

I agree, why do you guys even do it? I don't even see the advantages of it except backing up games etc.

And I've heard more horror stories than success stories so.....yeah

Name a horror story?
I've had my Wasabi chip for about 4-5 months.
Never had one problem.
I got quite worried about that whole bricking shenanigan but when the mod chip installer explained to me now i take it with ease

I agree "WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG"!!!! i'd suggest this dude gets his facts right....

The only time people have problems is when Noobs don't know what the fro they're doing or they install it themselves or try to run some game or homebrew programs without first reading up about it how to prevent bricking ur wii.....

SO the problem is not the modchip..... its the NOOBS!!!!

I've had my wii modified for over 2 years and have not had a problems since
