Wii Hardware \ Once again, Nintendo is portreyed as the 'little' company.

dermy says:

It just seems that way to me.
I walk through the shops and see "XBOX 360!!" and "PS3!!!" and then come across "wii" in the dark corner.
Okay, to be fair, XBOX 360 deserves a high profile, but the only reason the ps3 gets big attention is because the 'PS2' was a huge success.
It makes me angry. Nintendo have been in the console wars FROM THE START, and now they are fading? This isn't right!
The Wii and Nintendo will live long!

Which shops would these be? You go to a place like EB for example and they have their Wii display exactly opposite PS3, right near the door, hardly in the corner. At places like JB they share shelf space with the rest of the consoles, of course Wii takes up less space because of the lower number of games...

Okay, maybe, but I hardly think the ps3 has more games then the Wii as it was just released.
I'm not here to downgrade nintendo, don't get me wrong, i'm saying they don't get the attention they deserve.

That's true, I just hope that given a bit of time the Wii will help Nintendo get back into the game, so to speak.

Hahaha, The Wii section at my local EB (EB indooroopilly) took over the PS3 section when the PS3 didn't sell and was downgraded to a smaller section...

People can think what they like with Nintendo, but in all honesty. They're ruling the current gaming market with the Wii. Maybe you should show the stats to a Xbox or Sony fanboy.

Same on the coast, I actually had to find the PS3 games...I was laughing on the inside.
360 are plastered everywhere because MS are doing all the marketing they can. Nintendo can afford to sit back and watch the sales roll in without banners in your face everywhere you turn.

Yeah, oh well teh 360 is an awesome console, I'm actually not swayed by marketing I buy a console on the basis of it's games, it's specs and my allegiance to the company.

Most places have more 360 becasue there are so many more games on it as for the PS3 most placesI have seen have had the same or less space and games then they do for wii

I remember when the N64 was up against the PS1 it was shocking that in most stores Nintendo had just a small portion of the video games area, same with the GameCube.
The N64 had some great games too so it was even more disapointing.
With the Wii it seems Nintendo have there confident strut back which is good so hopefully they dominate even more and put Sony & Microsoft in there place.

I know what Dermy is talking about, I saw it today at JBhifi. But then again, they didn't have any wiis in stock.

I think it is partly because of the success for ps2, but also to do with the fact that if the profit margin on consoles is 15%....they would rather sell a console that costs $1000, than a console that costs $388

oh something like this happened to me. i was in town and decided to look at games i went in and there was NO GC section.i ask the guy at counter he said we ain't selling them anymore and this was ages before the wii was out...

Yeah! Exactly.
I guess now, I over reacted a little.
The wii is as big as the 360, and the PS3 is getting bigger every day, so we'll see.

i know what you mean. maybe its a trend @ EB? at the local store, the wii takes prize position in between the counter and a life size statue of link (i'm sure you's have all seen it). 360 have the biggest shelf space, very close behind is wii, but the ps3 stuck in a little hole the middle there somewhere.

I buy a console on the basis of it's potential games (and Nintendo have never failed to deliver, where as the Xbox only had 2 or 3 games worth buying...yes i played over 200), the consoles features, and my allegiance to the company. Specs don't bother me, developers have been able to extract good graphics since the GC/Xbox and to a lesser extent the later Ps2 titles so anything better than that is fine by me.

LostDjinn says:

True the Tendy's specs are along way from the 360 or the PS3, but Tendy's biggest feature is it's really fun to play. (If you buy a good game). 360 and PS3 are competing on a specs basis, while Tendy's focus is on how you play the game. I don't see how you can compare the systems as they represent two clearly different things.

Naviti says:

i think it because of the success the xbox and PS2 had over the Gamecube. People are still not convinced that the Wii is a great machine. It all about specs and dvd playback now.

But if Japan is any indication (1 PS3 for every 5 Wii sold) it should be changing soon.... hopefully....

The Wii sells itself, these shops don't really need to promote it too much. As soon as you have Wii's in stock, it's all gone. There are still many places around the world where you can't get a Wii.

The PS3 and 360 on the other hand, needs a bit more advertising and fanfare to sell. These shops need to promote them more, especially the PS3, where customers are staying away from because of the high price tag. There are lots and lots of PS3s and 360s in stock, and they need to move them out the door fast!

The release of Blu-Ray and HD-Dvds should help in the sales of the consoles. It will be cheaper than getting a standalone player.
