Wanting workable DVD drive or "bricked" Wii

Hi everybody,

I shouldn't have gotten up today (what a crap day).
anyways Here's my little story: In my haste to go over to a friends house today (and taking my Wii to show it off) I've dropped it and after much crying and trying to fix it, I can only get it to read 1 game - being Zelda, all the other games fail. Well thats not to bad since I've still got several hours to waste on it.

however I'll still need a NEW or working DVD drive and I've heard that some PAL Wii's have been bricked by the SPM (Super Paper Mario) game, so I'm hoping that someone might want to either sell there bricked/broken Wii so I can use the drive OR that someone with a bricked Wii might want to purchase my working Wii and swap out the faulty drive.

Either way someone can salvage a workable Wii.

please message me if your interested.

Why not send it to Nintendo?

Ask OzModChips,
They would most likely have some; returns.etc.

Winnie: I dont think Nintendo could do anything?, could they?, do they have the parts that could fix it?

JackAz: thanks, I'll check with OzModChips.

Wii-Fan: I haven't thought of an exact price for it, but it all works except for the DVD drive, so feel free to offer a reasonable price, BUT I'm really wanting to find a replacement drive as that would be a cheaper option to fixing my Wii instead of shelling out the cash for a new one.

Thanks for the feedback

Nintendo could fix it but won't seeing it wasn't a manufacturing fault.
...Before you think it let me point out saying it wasn't build strong enough to withstand being dropped is not counted as a manufacturing fault

Agree with JackAz, I'd think that Ozmodchips are probably the best people to ask.

Umm..... just wondering mybe its not a problem with the dvd drive because like you said one of the games works just a thought you may want to have a look inside cos it might be something simple

I smell BS - you tried to install your own modchip and screwed the DVD rom up and now you need a new one. come on tell us the truth. you burnt the solder pads off and now don't know what to do. contact an installer and get them to solder the chip (if you haven't screwed it up) directly to the legs of the chip on the board instead of the solder pads. it can be done as there are lots of people who have screwed their wii's by doing a DIY.

You dropped the Wii - BS. Just admit what you did and move on. No-one gives a damn that you screwed your wii up, just take it elsewhere and get it fixed.

OI Pyro. Bite me - i stand by everything that I write. So now you are calling me an idiot. So who is flaming who?

Oh no you have one of those admin badges under your name. I had better back off otherwise I may get kicked and banned. Not allowed to argue with admins on this site otherwise you get in trouble.

Explain to me how only one disc could be read by the drive and every other disc can't be read? Maybe Zelda was pressed onto one of those super special DVD's that can be read, but all other games made for the wii are on those discs that are less superior. You know the ones that can't get read after dropping a console.

Maybe Nintendo could go into a new market. Super strong extra sensitive discs that can still be read by dropped consoles. forget the other discs, this disc can be read after you have smashed the console in half. takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'.

give me a break. ban me if you like - i really don't give two ****s anymore.

guys, its fine, honestly.... and if I was somebody else reading this post then I'd think the same thing and really if I did try to solder something and stuffed it I'd stick my hand up and say to a modchipper "I've tried and stuffed this up, can you fix it", people dont like helping if your being dishonest with them. honestly I wouldn't even try soldering on a chip thats the size of a 50cent piece, as I'm crap at that type of work (I cant even do make model planes) and I'd rather pay for someone to do it properly so there's no issues later.

So in saying that I tell you guys more of how I've tried to fix it since my Wii dropping experience. I've got a technico/solder friend that I work with and when I drop it I rang him around ahour later as I thought something with the DVD rom is wrong after it didn't work properly, as again it could boot and read the Zelda disk (but it wouldn't actually load) - so he cracked it open and checked the drive, he told me something had sized and he fixed that(not exactly sure what it was that he fixed), but still the same issue, so my plan from that was to see if someone had a Wii (as I read some forum posts about the Wii and NSTC games on PAL Wii's) that got bricked and then my techo friend could put in the new drive, which he's confident of doing.

Sorry my Post got cut so here's the rest:

For MrMorden; I was intending on getting a chip but I'm waiting on furthur chip development to see what happens, its just crap luck or plan stupidity on my part that I dropped my Wii, and its harder to say that you've dropped your Wii then saying I stuffed up on a crap soldering job.
Also I'm preplexed into why the Zelda disk is read as you can see it in the Drive dashboard (but doesn't load - I left that out before sorry) but the other disks (Wiiplay WiiSports) dont even get a showing on the Drive dashboard - somethings sort of right in the drive but not just...

anyways guys/gals thanks for checking out my post and again if you know someone with a bricked Wii - I truely feel sorry for those that have one because I feel crap with mine sort of working, great so now I can vote, view the internet and watch the weather but can't play games....

thanks

Is there any record of anyone bricking their wii around here? Because I know that that was the main worry about the wiikey... but did it actually happen to anyone?

Not that I know of. We let people discuss it so that they wouldn't brick their Wiis.
