All three companies would be hoping to hell it lasts longer than 3 years because otherwise they'll be losing out. Xbox 360 is nearly a year old and it's only just starting to take off really. Gamecube was a uselss piece of turd and it lasted over 4 years until it was superseeded. Also, if they start developing their next-gen consoles now it would take them 3 years minimum anyway.

I dont see where you are comming from saying they are not the lastest tech.. My 360 games at the moment look better then any of my PC games inc fear, half life 2, battlefield 2142. Gears of war, pdz, and such have the best graphics to date imo.

The 360/ps3 graphics go head to head with current PC games which is the benchmark king of video games as there technology is updated every day. Though the new direct x, and multithreaded games such as Crysis will give pc the jump. Though the new unreal engine is already being used in 360 games, so there again, there head to head at the moment.

Technically this next generation has already been current for a year man and in my opinion this new gen of gaming will last longer
more than 5 years. Because Sony is manufacturing ps3s at a very huge loss and xbox is still losing money on their systen. I can see updated versions of the same console like a slimline ps3..hehe But for the most part i think this gen we will see the birth of the add-on.. I.e. firmware updates, hard drives, HD- DVD drive for xbox. Online components will play a huge role as well. Digital distribution will increase the longevity of each console too. I dont think sony is currently in the position to work on a ps4. Microsoft will work around add-ons like the recent 1080p update they had on xbox live for the 360. Also Microsoft has their new Live anywhere service which pits console gamers against PC gamers. I.e. shadowrun.. etc. Wii will last just cos it's cheap to develop for. BTW whatever I've said is up for debate. Just dont get rude guys.

Also franki3 I dont think any game created for the 360 uses all 3 core processors either. Im not sure about gears of war though. So imo the xbox 360 yeilds alot of power yet.

Sony have announced that the Ps3 will be an 8yr + console so that'll be the longest generation. I can see Nintendo upgrading the Wii within 4 yrs. It would work in thier favour to simply double the processing power and maybe adding in a DVD drive, but keeping the Wii looking and working exactly the same as it is now, with the same Dev tools and the same backwards compatibility, perhaps calling it the Wii 2.0 I personally think that would be the smartest move Nintendo could do.
