For what?

Well, assuming you don't want to take the Manual test, you would start off as a Auto Learner, hold license for 12 months, do test, get Provisional 1, you have to hold it for another 12 months before you can try take the Provisional 2 which lets you drive the Manual/Auto.

So it's not really a 6 months wait

Our overall process goes like this (running the old system, not recent changes)
> turn 16, you can get your "L's" by doing a computer test, must achieve 26 or more out of 35
>16 and six months you can go for your phase 2 practical driving test.
>once you have done 25 hours if driving and your 17 you get your "P's"

Holy crap, thats pretty easy!

Old System:
- For our Ls, the computer test must have score of atleast 43-44 out of 45, anything lower is fail.
- Hold Ls for minimum 6 months and do atleast 50 hours.
- Go for practical driving test, need minimum 90 out of 100 to pass.
- Hold Red P for minimum 12 months, go for Green Ps.

New System:
- For our Ls, the computer test must have score of atleast 43-44 out of 45, anything lower is fail.
- Hold Ls for minimum 12 months and do atleast 120 hours.
- Go for practical driving test, need minimum 90 out of 100 to pass.
- Hold Red P for minimum 12 months, go for Green Ps.
