KK1387 said: Surface Area of a cylinder = 2πrsquared + 2πrh
Therefore:
if radius = 1:
2π + 2πh
6.28 + 15.072
21.352m squared
In this case, pi = 3.14. change it if need be.

if you go with the full π value it's 21.363 (thanks graphics calculator in my desk draw which I'd use a program on to check the result but it's the wrong one (not the one with the programs))

Um, yeah, okay.

But those books normally tell you to use pi to x decimal places, so... I use 2 because i am used to 2 - i already said the value could be substituted/changed if needed.

KK1387 said: Surface Area of a cylinder = 2πr(r+h)
Therefore:
2π(1+2.4)
2π(3.4)
6.28 x 3.4
21.532m squared
I have rounded pi to two decimal places, substitute it with more if need be.

Like, tell me where i go wrong?

Area of top and base circles + cylinder sides
top and base circles = pi x radius2 (diameter = 1m) = 3.142 x 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.7855m2 (multiply by two for other circle = 1.571m2)

cylinder sides = 2 x pi x r = 2 x 3.142 x 0.5 = 3.142m2
multiply by height (2.4m) = 7.5408

Now add them all together = 0.7855 + 0.7855 + 7.5408 = 9.1118

Can you express the "9.1118" in m2 for me please?

You've done that correctly.

9.11m squared.

Also, sorry for my mistake first time round, thought you wrote that the radius was 1m.

ok thank you but only in my answer section it has it like this:

Sides = 6.28m2
Top = 0.785m2
Base = 7.85m2

And the Cylinder is 2.4m high and has a diameter of 1m.
Mii confused! Can you unconfuse me please?

Has the answer book made a mistake? In one of your calculations I saw "6.28" aswell..

The book is a screw-up; if the top circle of a cylinder is 0.785m, then the Base must be too. Unless there's a different definition for base somewhere in the book...

Your answer is correct, though, I'm sure.
6.28 was in my answer because I messed up thinking the radius was 1, not .5.

nope, the 7.5xx in his calculations is the area in the rectangular side.

No no, my bad...
Lol it has the sides as 6.28m2, the top as 0.785m2 and the base also as 0.785m2

My issue is with the "sides" because 6.28m2 doesn't make sense?

Is it just me or is the book screwed? Sorry i didn't realize my mistake when i accidently posted 7.85 but i meant 0.785 lol. The real problem is the 6.28m2.

Pretty sure the book is wrong.

Formula for the rectangluar side of a cylinder:
2πrh

--- 2π x 0.5 x 2.4
.-. 3.142 x 2.4
= 7.5408

I swear the book is against you!!!
