Yes, that's right. The Wii's virtual console has been cracked and decrypted. I have found out that the games we play on the wii are nothing but roms, with HTML pages for the operations guides. The homebrew community is concerned about the news, but i have nothing to do with them, so yeah. This news is a bit ancient, april 17th actually. But this wasnt made very public at all, and im very against game piracy so hopefully nintendo picks up on this!

So the VC games we play on wii are only roms. Does this give a chance on piracy or something.

Very old news indeed, this has made Virtual Console piracy increase especially with the Wad things and has allowed people to create their own Virtual Console games for the Wii, a prime example is Chrono trigger.

It's been released, a thing called Twilight Hack, Homebrew Channel and WAD Installer allows Virtual Console games to be installed on Wii if you download them off the internet

This is old news, but hardly anyone knows about this, and i dont think most of Nintendo's employees know either. Heaps of virtual console roms have been dumped on the net. Its morally wrong man. Only the hardcore homebrewers and rom downloaders who do illegal rom emulation all the time would know about this.

i think if you look around most of the virtual console games roms were on the net before the wii came out

It wont. Nintendo have already thought of that. I wonder wat would happen if nintendo found out about this?

I started collecting roms in around 2000 when my sega master system's AV cable started to become loose and held to be held in by blu-tac.

So yeah roms have been around for nearly a decade and the VC merely took advantage of nostalgia. Seriously though some of the VC games arent worth what Nintendo expect us to pay for them, especially when they keep updating the list with all the ****ty games no one really ever played.

Neither of those are an excuse to illegally obtain games. When you buy a game, you are paying for the game software, which basically what the ROMs are. Unless you own an original copy of the games you emulate, you are breaking the law. It's just as illegal as going into EB Games, waiting until noone is there, jumping behind the counter and helping yourself to the game discs.

Just as a side note, Nitendo states that even if we own the original cartridge game it is still illegal for us to download the ROM files. Therefor no one is allowed to have ROMs or emulators.

Is that official cause i always thought that roms where only allowed if you actually owned the original which makes a lot of sence to me.

So...are you saying...if someone just happened to have a WAD file of a game and an emulator that played the WAD files game, eg. kid icaurs on snes. They could use the emulator to load up the WAD and play it on the computer?

Sorry if this conflicts with rules and what not.

Lol mrmorden, I know what you saying

But like, am I even saying the right thing? I am thinking that you can get the WAD and use something on them so that you get the rom file and then you can play the rom file on your computer with an emulator that matches where the game is originally from?

why bother decrypting a wad to get the rom file out of it when there are dozens of sites on the net that host rom files anyway.

i think that the wads are only useful for playing them on your wii.

Yer well I will still use them on my Wii, but I thought, if I learned how to do this, I wont have to download any new roms, because the games I will want to play are the ones that I already have...and I have alot of games to choose from then.
