Hey peoples,
Just a really quick one. I'm currently usin ga USB Gecko and ripping alone is taking about 2 hours per disc.

Does anyone use a SD Gecko and if so, how long does it take to rip a complete disc?

(I'm not talking VC's or Save Games)

If using the SD is quicker I'll look at getting one of those.
Have tried Wanikoko's Cusom IOS for wii and its dumping tools, however thats looking at taking about 3 days to rip a disc.. lol

I know how to do it, I just want to know if its worth throwing another few dollers at the wii to make ripping faster.

Lol, perhaps you should begin asking your question in spanish, french, japanese etc. Obviously plain simple english is not working.

I only have the SD and so far it seems about the same based on your 2 hours. USB should be quicker though, faster transfer rates for USB and all.

Therefore based on this, the way in which data is read from the drive must be the bottleneck (Or the drive itself) and not that actual media you use to rip your games to.

Hmmm... if only they could make the custom IOS DVD Ripper faster.. lol

Lets work this out... 4.5GB in 2Hours(120 Mins)

4608MB/120MINUTES = 38.4MB/Minute
38.4/60Seconds in a minute = 0.64MB/s
0.625MB/s * 1024KB in a MB = 655.36KB/S

I worked on 1K being 1024 not 1000

Maybe my maths is wrong, but it certainly sounds about right.

I certainly dont mean to sound rude, but throughput your getting on your computer makes no never mind to how things will behave on the wii.

Well in saying that it might make a difference for just how fast you can rip from one device to another, So at the very least you've shown that things should be working alot faster than they currently are.

So the 2hours it takes is all about the reading and verification process

I personally use the USBGecko, not cause it's any better but for the fact that i don't have to swap out SD cards, or join/convert files.

The USB saves it as an image file ready to burn straight away.

I've tried using software with verification turned off, and the rip times are still exactly the same.

If you're reading a certain amount of data, lets say the disc will always contain 4589824kb then why do i need to worry so much about verification for it?

By simply copying the bits over, i'm goiugn to get that exact number.

You seem to be forgetting that both the USB Gecko and the Gecko SD Adapter plug into the Gamecube memory card slot, so obviously it is the Gamecube memory card slot that is the hold up. Theoretically you could transfer a 4.7gb over USB in about 5 minutes, so obviously the USB vs SD speed argument is moot.

Look at Gecko's first attempt to now, the speed is nearly 50% quicker and it still takes 2 hours,
You need to understand that when trying to read something to get an exact kb measured and organised in a stable environment there's only so quick it can go.

Using an LG DVD reader, Takes the same time for the same reason.
Hey if you want it to go quicker write the code.

All the current software is all based around the same design.

From start to end, including the burning at 4x. It takes 90 minutes until I have the freshly burnt disc in the wii drive, ready to play.

Really, unless you're copying more than one game a day, 2 hours for the USB shouldn't be a problem, plus you don't have to get up and dump the chunks every 20 mins.
And if you're that cashed up that you actually have a new original to "back up" every day, I don't see why you'd even bother making copies.

My issue is location and having to move the wii around to use the USB. Tried a longer cable - fails @ 50-65% each time so had to make smaller again (And yes i know how the USB standards work).

Types of cd's I've used - inTacT DVD-r's (Cheap as chips) and work without a problem - I've used TDK without issue - Verbatims from what I've read are fantastic in regards to compatibility.

Changing the speed from 6x to 3x I found didn't make any difference to games as I wasn't havn't trouble with my discs being read in the first place. I suppose if you are burning @ 4X and your wii is reading ur discs okay, theres not much point in changing the read speed.
