The iPhone WILL NOT be sold unlocked in Australia, it will be sold on either a Contract locked to the carrier with the phone costing around $210 for 8Gb or $310 for 16GB not including the EXTRA thousand dollars or so you'll be spending on the contact, OR by pre-pay (Much more expensive for the actual phone, but no contract and just recharge like usual pre-pay phones) but it will still be sim-locked to the carrier, pre-pay is probably more affordable for some (will be around $700 for 8GB model, $1000 for 16GB)

no way, thats the price of it if you agree to a 24 month contract so its $199US+(Price of contract per month x 24 months) For example if the plans turn out at cheapest to be $50 a month than it ends up costing about $1400 AU in absolute total, and you can bet thats how much the cheapest plan will be. In other words, its subsidised by the expensive plan you'll get hit with.

well for a start, read the newspaper - vodafone released a press statement saying that the iPhone will not be sold unlocked. 2nd - the price would be so high people would belch at it. 3rd - Carriers are getting a larger cut from iPhone3G so why would they want to sell it unlocked. If you want to get an iPhone3G unlocked, either jailbreak it or buy the pre-paid and pay the $30-$90 unlock fee.

I cant believe you guys haven't known this or realised it.

actually there are phones that cost $500,600,700,800,900,1000,1100,1200 dollars pre-paid or outright. for example the Nokia N95 costs about $900. People, its a smartphone IT IS GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE, heres proof, a picture of a POS screen at a Domayne in the heart of Sydney displaying Domaynes RRP prices for the prepaid iphones, how do i know they're prepaid, cause Domayne is not a vodafone or optus reseller therefore they cannot sell the iphone with a plan contract. Also the worker that posted this said under the 16gb white iphone description it said this:
IPHONE 16GB WHITE TLRA/OPTS/VODA NOCONT - NDA, which means there is NOCONT(ract) and TLRA/telstra will also be selling it.

Well ok, I don't think iPhone is a 'bad' phone as such. It has excellent features, notably it's interface, touch-screen, built in storage and lastly, looks & brand.


However, I'm pretty sure if you take out the touch screen and brand, you can get a phone for a much lower price than than.

That being said, I still want one only @ the right price thou.
