Oh, Crash Bandicoot. When will you get your happily ever after?
At Sierra Gamers Week, the company showcased Crash of the Titans -- the latest earth-threatening problem for the ginger-furred mascot and his motley group of friends. This time, Doctor Neo Cortex is making mutants, stealing mojo, and kidnapping Crash's pals.
Our demo began with the game's namesake chilling front of his island home when Cortex swooped from the sky, stole Crash's girl and flew off. With that, chapter one -- A New Hop -- began. The game itself is a platformer at heart so you'll need to hop from grassy stair to grassy stair, collect mojo orbs and wail on enemies such as winged batmen with cartoon-inspired moves as you move through the linear levels.
Although the melee button will be your best friend as you move forward, when you get to the bigger baddies, a magical mask will be your bread and butter. See, the main hook to Titans is that Crash can jump onto the backs of larger enemies, put the mask on his foe and assume control over the behemoth.
Yeah, most would run from a Scorporilla -- a half-scorpion/half-gorilla abomination -- but Crash chooses to fight until the enemy is stunned, jump on and use the big guy's strength to clear our the other villains surrounding him. All in all, you'll be able to highjack 15 bad guys by the end of the game.
We got to match wits with a crew of armor-wearing wild boars, and the mind-control mechanic seemed like fun. We'd hop on one boar, beat on another and leave the two piggies knocked out on the ground.
The game will give you stats and unlockables at the end of each level, be out on a plethora of systems and feature drop-in/drop-out co-op where Crash teams up with a similar looking but gray bandicoot.
The two downsides to all this? Crash can armpit fart on command and sounds like he's being voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait's even-less talented brother.
