Dead Space Extraction Producer Confident about Sales

Steve Papoutsis, producer of Dead Space Extraction, is confident that the upcoming Wii title will sell well, despite disappointing sales of other mature titles on Nintendo platforms.

In an interview with vg247 he referred to the less than stellar sales of MadWorld on the Wii and GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS. "I think that's happening because of what people are looking to buy, I guess." However he thinks Dead Space won't suffer the same fate "I think with our game right now I think we're hitting on something that's really interesting and really fun, and we're hitting on the atmosphere and the visuals that people have started to associate with Dead Space."

He also made mention of the games co-op features "I love the Wii, I love Nintendo. I love all the platforms, but I really want something that I can play co-operatively on the Wii with a friend that hits that sweet spot I think Dead Space: Extraction is in."

It's an interesting take on the situation, while MadWorld may have slipped under the radar as a new series it's hard to believe that people would not be looking to buy a GTA game.

Good point. I didn't sell mine, but the thought sadly did cross my mind on occasion. More so I guess not because of the lack of mature games but due to the never ending streams of shovelware that has appeared.

This game looks like it has potential, but I'm pretty fussy these days with new wii games. Lets wait and see....

You know I have had enough of this nonsense. First of all can someone PLEASE define the terms mature and hardcore because quite a few times those two do NOT get along that well. A hardcore game is NOT a game with regenerative health where all you do is wait till enemy fire stop and then clicking a button till everything stops moving (Gears of War). If hardcore is defined by requiring a lot from the player, then Boom Blox can become hardcore along with other "non mature games".

You want blood with a total disregard of gaming mechanics, then be my guest. I have had my fair share of mature and non mature games, hardcore and casual as you now call them for longer than most of you people and I can say that those labels sicken me.
A good game is a good game even if it has all the colors of the rainbow in it. So despite the shovelware, there are A LOT of good Wii games no one seems to bother and that comes from a Wii owner who is considering getting a 360 but can't really find the game that will make him buy it.

On the topic, having a cutdown experience of a game that is already out on other platforms is a recipe for disaster because if I wanted to play dead space I would play the original FPS version. Overkill had the premise to sell really well to those "mature" gamers (ok with the exception of those who take blood seriously - those need help mind you) and it sold moderately. So Dear dead space producer, please prove me wrong when the game hits retail.

Sorry but I got to ask, you see wii sports and you got a Wii for mature games? A console where Nintendo software reign supreme (for the last 15 years) and third parties struggle for the leftovers? How dumb are you?

CSP is right. I class Super Paper Mario and Pikmin as Hardcore titles because they are lengthy, challenging story-driven games that require time to complete. A casual game is a quick pick up and quick play, which those 2 games aren't. I don't believe a game needs guns or violence to be classed as Hardcore.
