News \ Alone in the Dark allows you to skip chapters

There are countless challenging games out there, but the Alone in the Dark series is infamous for its challenging chapters. However, with the latest version in the horror series coming to the 360, Playstation and Wii, players everywhere will be able to skip chapters and go straight to the end of the game if they get stuck, according to OXM.

Alone in the Dark’s producer Nour Polloni had this to say.

"We want everybody to be able to finish our game, so one of the other new features we've added is the ability to skip sections using a DVD-style menu if you get stuck."

"Achievements (on 360) is one way to reward players who don't skip,"

So, if skipping chapters means no achievements on the 360 version, what will the punishment be on the Wii and Playstation 3 version?

i probably wont skip but i think this was a pretty cool idea

your all saying that it's lame and that was my first reaction too
but think about it, there's a fine line between a game being challenging and just flat out frustrating,

it's good to know that if i reach apart that TOTALLY pisses me off to my very core, i dont have to go through it, and just fast foward to fun (excuse that obnoxious alliteration)

IceManPJN said: Here's the problem with people complaining that everyone should actually play through games: some of them can't. Gamer skill varies widely, and a lot of gamers reach a sort of invisible wall where they simply do not have the skill to go any farther. Those gamers pay $50 or $60 for a game and only get to play the first part of it.

This is something that folks on gaming forums tend to almost universally forget. They represent perhaps the top five percent of gamers, but their skill level is not indicative of the other 95% who can often lag very, very far behind. They often complain that a game was too easy, and perhaps for the top five percent the game in question might be too easy, but that doesn't speak for the other 95%.

Games are meant to be challenging. You are meant to have to practice, and work at them to be able to get past them. That's the problem today. Nobody is willing to put in the effort. How do you increase your skill level? PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Not skipping through the bits you get stuck on!

I don't know if you are identifying this as a bad thing,

I personally LOVE a good final cut scene. Short pis5y ones really annoy me. I love a good wrap-up!! For instance; Kindgom Hearts final cut scenes are friggen brilliant. Not ONLY the final cut scenes rather, but any scene withint the entire game. Beautiful!

30 second final cut scene = very very bad
I hate lack of closure, I don't care how big the last explosion was, I wanna know what happens after that! Give me 5 minutes AT LEAST where I can watch the show after the epic adventure! Is that too much to ask ?!

This will still end up being a good game. If you want to skip chapters then go ahead, I personally wouldn't since you buy a game to play through it. Unless you have a wiikey...

Pity so many game ending are like a 30 second cut scene now

Thats lame.
Thats what guides are for, helping you skip parts of the game
Honestly, if you buy the game, at least play through it
If it takes you 40 hrs, good! Thats about how long it takes an average player to beat twilight princess. It means you truly got your money's worth.
