The Casual Games Association today released it's first annual report on the fast-growing segment of the gaming market. Casual gaming holds a market share of about 10% in the $30 billion dollar world wide gaming industry.
The report came with a few little known facts about casual gaming, and big one being that male gamers are equally into casual gaming as women but are far less likely to admit it.
"Everyone always thought that casual games were something that only appeal to women," Jessica Tams, managing director of the association, said in an interview. "We have always been obsessed about making games for women."
Statistics showed that while 3/4 of casual game purchasers were women, actual play time was a 50/50 split between the sexes.
Research also showed that just because men were not buying the games doesn't mean that they weren't getting a hold of them, instead opting for either finding a free version and cracking copy protection schemes to get their hands on them.
The reason men haven't come up as casual game fans so far in industry data is because most are still very much into the realistic hardcore games out there.
"The hardcore gamer who is playing 'Halo' with his buddies isn't going to brag that he just beat the next level of 'Zuma'." Tams said.
